Travel information / Questions about Puerto Rico
"Know Before You Go"
Day of Wedding Information
Will I need a passport to fly to Puerto Rico?
Since Puerto Rico is a US territory, you will not need a passport to travel!
Will I need to exchange for different currency on the island?
No need! Puerto Rico uses USD. We recommend letting your bank know ahead of time you will be on the island making purchases to debit or credit cards.
What if I don’t speak Spanish?
No te preocupes! Don't worry!
Most local residents speak English perfectly/very well, especially in the cities and the San Juan area. You should have no trouble in Viejo San Juan and in the resorts area.
If you choose to explore more the island, especially in the mountain areas, it may be helpful to learn a few words such as the food you may want to try as menus may not have translations or the locals may not be fully fluent in English.
What is the weather like in March in Puerto Rico?
The weather is beautiful in March on the island. The high is usually in the low 80s and the evening is usually in the mid 70s. It is still in the drier season, but there is still some humidity this time of year, especially in the north.
What time zone is Puerto Rico in?
Puerto Rico does not observe daylight savings, so they reside in "Atlantic Standard Time". Please be aware of any time change depending on where you are traveling from.
Are there different laws regarding alcohol or gambling?
The drinking age in Puerto Rico is 18. There are quite a few casinos along Condado, including in La Concha. If you earn any winnings (congrats!) you must claim them on the island before returning home. Please drink and gamble responsibly.
If I’m renting a car, what do gas prices look like?
Puerto Rico uses some metric and some imperial measurements. Gas is sold by the liter and you can expect to pay between $0.80-$0.95 per liter which is $3.03- $3.60 per gallon, so very similar to prices in the states! The speed limit is also in MPH!
Do I need to RSVP?
Yes. Please fill out the RSVP form on the wedding website for every guest listed on your invitation whether you or someone is attending or not. You will need to type in your name on the form before the RSVP date which will be listed on the invitation coming later this year. We need to provide a guest count to the resort ahead of the event. If you do not respond by the RSVP date, you will be an assumed no.
Am I allowed to bring any other guests with me (such as a plus one or children)?
The names of those invited (including children) will be written on the invitation. The names listed will be how you RSVP for the event. If you are someone given the option of a “plus one” with no specific name, you will be able to RSVP for them, and include them on the guest list. Please note, there is no childcare provided at the resort for the event specifically.
What is the dress code?
Black-Tie Optional
For the ladies: Long dresses, dressier cocktail attire or an elegant pantsuit/jumpsuit. Please feel free to wear whatever shoes will make you most comfortable.
For the gentlemen: Button down and tie and/or suit jacket. Slacks or suit pants. Please no jeans.
Weddings on the island are typically more formal than some in the states.
What kind of food will be offered/ Will there be meal options for guests with allergies or dietary restrictions?
There will be a selection of hors d'oeuvres served during cocktail hour, and a buffet of Puerto Rican food for dinner during the reception. We have been keeping all of you in mind with our choices and there will be vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, nut free and white meat options available throughout the evening. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us and we can find out if there are any foods you should avoid. We will provide a list of food offered closer to the event.
Where should we bring/send our wedding gift?
Your presence and traveling for our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for! If you would like to honor us with a gift, we have registered a list that will become available on the "Registry" tab. Please do not feel the need to bring a physical gift with you to the wedding and bulk up your travel.
We also highly value travel and have some ambitious plans in the next couple of years. We have set up a "travel fund" on the "Registry" tab as well.
We love and appreciate your kind words and there will be a card box at the reception site on the day of the wedding.
Is there parking available in or near the resort?
There is a very narrow parking garage attached to the resort that has an overnight parking fee for resort guests. There is a special rate for the wedding day ($15 parking fee) if you are driving to the resort for the evening.
There are surface lots along Ashford Ave and street parking on side streets, both within walking distance of the resort.
Where can we look to see updates or any changes to the event?
If any major updates occur, we will make sure to contact you. Otherwise, all updates will be made on this site, so please check back regularly!
Will there be any other events to attend during the wedding weekend?
Please check on the "Schedule" tab closer to the event for any other events to attend during the wedding weekend!
Who do I contact in case I get lost or am unsure of where to go the day of the wedding?
As much as I would love to say "just text me", I think I will be a little preoccupied. Please check back here for an updated What's App number we will provide in case of any questions, problems or concerns the day of the wedding.
What time should I arrive to La Concha?
Please see the “schedule” tab for more information about weekend/day of details!
Note: there may be some updates for weekend events, so please check back regularly!
Am I allowed to take pictures at the wedding?
We absolutely encourage photos before the ceremony and throughout the night! We are going to have a no phone ceremony but will have a few moments where you can take pictures before we ask for phones to be put away. This allows the photographer to get clear shots of the ceremony and for everyone to be in the present moment. We will absolutely share the pictures of the ceremony once those photos become available. We would love to see the event through your eyes, so please take photos before the ceremony and after!
Is the wedding inside or outside?
The event will be both inside and outside! Our ceremony and "conch-tail" hour will be in a private outside area right next to the beach during golden hour! Please note, the outside area is tile, but you may be able to head down a set of stairs right onto the beach. The reception itself will be inside beginning at sunset, but we will also have a covered private terrace available throughout the night!
Will there be an open bar?
During "conch-tail" hour, there will be one custom drink served and a bar with drinks available for purchase.
During the reception, there will be a four hour open bar (6:30pm-10:30pm) available for you to enjoy! In addition there will be drinks passed around for the toast.
Will the DJ take song requests?
On the day of, the DJ will not be taking song requests. However, in our RSVP form, you will be able to list songs you would love to hear and we will provide that list to the DJ! We want everyone to enjoy the evening, just make it a little more streamlined for everyone.
