Michael and Gaby met in November of 2014, after talking for a few weeks they agreed to a first date in December. Their first date was in Menifee, CA at BJ's brewhouse. They enjoyed their meal and talked for close to 6 hours, being the final guests to leave BJ'S. Shortly after their first date, Michael invited Gaby to the San Diego Zoo. December 29th, 2014 was the day Michael asked Gaby to be his girlfriend. After the 2014 Holidays, Michael returned to school at Arizona State University, Gaby was in school in California, and thus long distance began. For 4 years, Michael and Gaby only saw each other on school breaks, long weekends, or special events. Michael was the master of surprise visits, he would randomly show up on Gaby's doorstep multiple times throughout the year. During these four years, Michael graduated from Arizona State, Gaby graduated from culinary school, and Michael received a Graduate Assistant Position at the University of Oklahoma and relocated to Norman,Oklahoma. In October of 2018, in a quick exchange of text messages, Gaby shared her idea that maybe she should move to Norman too. Within the next few months, Gaby planned her relocation to Oklahoma, so she could be with Michael. January of 2019, Michael and Gaby packed up Gaby's white Kia Soul and drove 24 hours from Sunny Southern California to Norman, Oklahoma. For the first time in 4 years, Michael and Gaby FINALLY lived in the same state. During their time in Oklahoma, they enjoyed the cold weather, the rodeos, cheering on the Sooners, and eating a TON of Chick-fil-A. Gaby quickly took a job at a brand new Chick-fil-A in town, and fell in love with selling chicken! Michael and Gaby lived in Norman, but would travel home during the summer and during the holidays. They had multiple conversations about getting engaged, however they agreed that the time just wasn’t quite right. However Michael had other plans. Being on a graduate assistant stipend, Michael was sure he couldn’t afford an engagement ring. Michael had a conversation with his dad, John, about potentially financing a ring, as he really wanted to propose. John reminded Michael that he could use Grandma Fox’s ring, so Michael called his Aunt Maureen in New York and had the ring overnight express shipped to California. The ring arrived at 7pm on Christmas Eve, and Michael secretly wrapped it up with intentions of proposing on Christmas morning. Christmas morning, Gaby and Michael went to Gaby’s sisters house and opened gifts. Michael and Gaby then went back to the Fox’s house and began opening gifts. Gaby began opening a box labeled “fragile” and to her utter SHOCK, there was a red ring box, with Grandma Fox’s beautiful ring sitting inside. Gaby’s response was “a ring??” And right at that moment Michael popped the question and Gaby responded was “are you serious?!” Michael had always been good at surprises, but this surprise truly took the cake. In December of 2019, Michael began applying for jobs for when he completed his degree. January of 2020 Michael received a job offer as an Intramural Sports Coordinator at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. GCU asked Michael to start January 27th, 2020, so Michael left Norman to start his new job at GCU. Cue the pandemic, In March of 2020, Michael was put on a work from home basis and moved back to Norman, to quarantine with Gaby. In July of 2020, Michael moved back to Arizona and Gaby stayed in Norman to complete the year at her job. December of 2020, Gaby finished her last couple weeks at work and Michael flew to Norman, so they once again could pack up her white Kia Soul and drive it back to Phoenix, Arizona. Gaby and Michael now live full-time in Phoenix, where Gaby took a Marketing Director position at a Chick-fil-A in Scottsdale and almost 2 years later Michael is still loving his job at GCU. Now almost 7 years later, we cannot wait to celebrate our marriage WITH YOU!
