What are special travel requirements?
Aruba requires a valid US passport (be sure to check regulations on expiration dates) and an ED form (embarcation/Disembarcation) which is very easy to fill out! There is a travel guide app available. This form must be filled out within 7 days of your travel date. It will tell you to pay a fee for entrance- we didn't and no one asked. Supposedly they tried to implement it but didn't pass the legislation so they can tell you to do it, but can't enforce it.
Can I use my U.S cell phone?
Verizon, AT&T, Mobile, and Sprint all have international coverage available (charges may apply).
Do we have to stay at the Divi?
DEFINITELY NOT!!! We got a group rate with the wedding, but honestly the beach at the Tamarjin is terrible, and all-inclusive may not be your best value! There are tons of restaurants on the island, and it is SUPER easy to get around! Definitely consider other options!
Should we rent a car?
Very easy to rent a car and get around. There are ZERO stoplights, they are all roundabouts! If you stay at a hotel on Eagle beach there are restaurants nearby in walking distance. If you stay at a hotel on Palm beach it is next to the shopping district and there are a lot of restaurants there. Pretty much all the hotels offer airport transportation. That said, everything on the island is within about 20-40 minutes and there are some awesome beaches for snorkeling at the ends of the island if that's your thing. We rented from Aruba Wheels 2 Go, they are great, airport pick up and drop off and very reasonable prices. There are no Uber or Lyft allowed on the island, and taxis take CASH ONLY.
Any good websites to research Aruba restaurants, things to do, beaches?
Alanna is your go to stop! Arubavacationtips.org or find her on tiktok for lots of great videos, restaurant reviews, beach information, and more!
What is the layout of the island?
There are two sides to Aruba- the beach side and the rock side (exactly how it sounds). All the beaches are on one side, and they are all public access (so if someone tells you that you can't use a part of the beach or a palapa, ignore them)! The main beaches in the middle where the hotels and a lot of the restaurants are located are Eagle Beach and Palm Beach. Both are BEAUTIFUL, easy to get to (most of the big hotels are on the beach or right across the main road), and they have chairs for rent at most of them. It wasn't to bad when we were there, but will likely get very busy at the time of the wedding (high season). The water is perfect and calm, the sand will NOT burn your feet when you walk across it even in the height of day, and it is flat! There are plenty of beach side restaurants and water activities as well. Eagle Beach is where a lot of the hotels and some condos are (Divi Phoenix, LaVent, Oasis), Palm Beach is near the Playa Linda and shopping district. There is one main road that runs along the beaches between the sand and hotel row. There are two popular beaches at the south end of the island- about 20 minutes away by car. Baby Beach and Rogers Beach are both great, excellent snorkeling and flat. Baby beach is more popular and busy than Rogers even though they are one minute from each other. There is a popular beach bar there called Rum Reef.
In the north there are several beaches that are a bit rockier, but great for snorkeling. Malmok is pretty rocky but is where the boat tours take people to snorkel. North of that is Arashi, which is pretty flat and sandy (easy to snorkel from one to the other).
Condos vs hotels
We stayed at a condo while we visited. Prices are very resonable (we stayed at LeVent) and it was very close to the beach. There are a ton of options for condos and even houses on AirBNB etc. If you plan to rent a car, seriously consider a Condo! Restraurants are easy to get to as are beaches, and they tend to be very affordable. Prestige is the company that manages a lot of them- email them for available options, they are very easy to work with and trustworthy. There are also grocery stores that are easy to get to so you can have food at the condo and even cook there if you want. That said if you want to take it easy by the beach and not worry about a car and travel, there are a lot of hotels available. All-inclusive is arguably not worth it in most places because of the over-abundance of available restaurants, most of which are pretty good. There are a lot of options within walking distance of Playa Linda and the Palm beach area, a little more distance between options in the eagle Beach area.
