It all started at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Katelyn and Garrett first met in person while watching MMA with friends. They ended up sitting across from each other, and Katelyn struck up a conversation about Garrett’s life in Alaska. It was a friendly and enjoyable chat, but nothing more at the time.
They had heard of each other before. Garrett volunteered at a camp in Alaska that Katelyn’s church also partnered with, and he had even generously donated to a few of her mission trips. They were acquaintances, connected by mutual circles but not yet close.
Fast-forward to July 2023: Garrett moved to Fargo, right across from Katelyn’s brother, and joined his small group. Around Thanksgiving, Katelyn’s mom, invited Garrett to their family gathering, knowing he’d be spending the holiday alone. After that, Katelyn and Garrett began seeing each other more often in group settings.
Katelyn’s servant heart led her to help Garrett with a small project: decorating his apartment. They spent an entire day together, making his space feel more like home. Neither of them thought much of it at first, but by the end of the day, Katelyn found herself not wanting to leave. Garrett later invited her back for more help, and they spent another day decorating and cleaning.
In February 2024, the tables turned when Katelyn was moving into her new apartment. Garrett took an entire day off work to help, staying for 12+ hours to carry boxes, unload, and organize. It was during this time that Katelyn had a realization: “I think I like him.”
Not long later, Katelyn invited Garrett over for a “thank you” dinner. They had dinner, watched a show, and then a movie—neither wanted the night to end. By 2 AM, they had confessed their feelings for each other. On February 27, 2024, they officially became a couple, and every moment since then has been a season of growth, love, and learning to navigate life as a team sold out for Jesus.

Garrett knows Katelyn’s favorite time of year is Christmas, so he planned the most beautiful holiday surprise. One evening, he suggested they go out to look at Christmas lights. Little did Katelyn know, Garrett had arranged for one of her best friends to travel from out of town and set up her apartment while they were out.
When Katelyn opened her door, she found her apartment transformed—candles glowing softly and rose petals scattered everywhere. She wept. Garrett got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
