Gary & Yolonda: A Love Forged in Care The year was 2020. The air in the Nursing Home was thick with the scent of disinfectant and the quiet murmur of lives lived. Yolonda, a bright and compassionate nurse navigated the hallways with a practiced grace. Then I saw him – Gary. He was new, a quiet presence with kind eyes. A voice, unbidden, whispered in her ear, “That’s your guy.” Yolonda, ever practical, dismissed it. “No, no, no,” she told herself. “He’s just a coworker.” But fate, it seemed, had other plans. Days turned into weeks, and Yolonda found herself drawn to Gary’s gentle demeanor and his heavy yet thick accent. I was tried saying hello or to strike up conversations, but Gary, initially, seemed oblivious. He was polite, but distant. I wondered if I had imagined the connection felt. They had been poured their hearts into planning it, carefully selecting every detail to reflect our shared values and unique love story. We’d have everything needed – each other. Recognizing the importance of a strong foundation, Gary suggested premarital counseling.
