Things to Do

In Halifax

Hiking

Spend some time exploring the many wooded and coastal trails in HRM. Point Pleasant Park and Long Lake are two popular trails close to/within the city. In Dartmouth you'll find Shubie park - not to be confused with Shubenacadie Wildlife Park (although both are great!).

Outside the city centre you can find the Five Bridge Lakes and Blue Mountain/Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Areas.

(Our favourite HRM hike is High Head Trail. If you make the trip it is worth also visiting Prospect Village!)

Walk Downtown

Halifax's downtown has been growing so much over the past few years - come explore our boardwalk and the many restaurants, art galleries, and shops along the way.

Halifax's botanical Public Gardens is a scenic spot to stop for lunch, and is right next to the historic Citadel Hill.

On the Water

Head to St. Mary's Boat Club (our venue!) on Saturday and Sunday for free kayak/canoe rentals to explore the Northwest Arm, or rent them at Shubie Park to explore the canal and lake.

Book a ticket through Ambassatours or J Farwell to take a trip on the Harbour Hopper, Tall Ship Silva, or a wine/beer cruise along the waterfront. Visit historic George's Island, or book elsewhere to get to McNabs Island.

Take the Alderney ferry across the harbour to Dartmouth! Downtown Dartmouth has lots of great food and shopping on offer.

Day Trips

Wolfville and Grand Pre

Visit beautiful the beautiful communities of Wolfville and Grand-Pré! About an hour's drive from Halifax city, Wolfville is one of our go-to day trips in Nova Scotia and definitely a must-see while you're in the province. Hike through Blomidon Provincial Park, tour some of the many wineries in the area, or simply enjoy exploring town!

Lunenburg

Tucked in along the South Shore, Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage site home to many beautiful buildings, great dining spots (we recommend the Salt Shaker Deli) and ghosts! Lunenburg is just over an hour's drive from Halifax.

Beach day

We highly recommend spending some time exploring Nova Scotia's beaches. Crystal Crescent and Rainbow Haven are two safe bets. If you're interested in trying your hand at surfing check out Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park. For those willing to drive a little further afield Martinique Beach is a real gem!

Spend a Few Days

Cape Breton Island

We'd be remiss to not mention beautiful Cape Breton Island!

Drive the Cabot Trail and hike in the highlands, or just spend a weekend relaxing on Ingonish Beach. There is so much to explore in this historic, breathtaking part of the province.

Kejimkujik National Park

A great spot to stretch your legs for anyone interested in camping and hiking. Keji offers backcountry and frontcountry camping, including Yurt, oTentik, and Ôasis accommodations.
