A Concise History

JENNIFER HERE - the first time I met George was way way back in December 2007. I had just moved in with my boyfriend at the time and we were hosting a housewarming/ Christmas party, to which George was invited. As soon as George walked through my door, he caught my eye. Shallow, I know. However, I was already with someone at the time so what can you do, right?Years later - 2011 actually - and I found myself happily single again. George and I had kept in touch throughout the years as we had similar interests and lived in the same area. One day, however, I happened to bump into him in a cafe whilst he was out on a date...and I found myself incredibly jealous. Or rather, envious. A few days later, I messaged George to see how his date went. He replied with "fantastic" and my heart fell into my stomach. He then asked if I fancied getting a coffee so of course, I WAS ALL OHMYGODYES. To make a long but not boring story short: we hung out, then dated, then broke up, then got back together and in January 2012 realised I was desperately in love with George and I knew on that cold Glasgow night in Tinderbox, that I wanted to marry him. He's kind, generous, humble, funny, intelligent, patient, empathetic,and hot too. I guess he likes me too because he proposed on my birthday: 22nd May and well, here we are. GEORGE'S BIT - Dear readers, that is pretty much how it went down. At that party in 2007 Jen compelled me to join Facebook, which helped a lot with the cyber-stalking and pretending to be into the same stuff (I joke!). Cut to 2011 and Jen moving to my neighbourhood, just round the corner. Almost like fate! It wasn't long before Jen's failed attempt to get me round to fix her cooker. I did some nervous troubleshooting over the phone. It transpired the cooker was turned off at the mains, and Jen was left frustrated but not defeated. I was soon in her front room providing a masterclass on bicycle tyre fitting. The rest is the proverbial history.The Tinderbox thing by the way. Apparently pouring milk into my coffee from the wee jug via the back of a spoon (stops it dribbling) was enough to seal the deal. Poor Jen had struggled with spillages for years. I was incredulous but grateful. All the more so when I realised how wonderfully happy she made - and makes - me. She is kind-hearted, courageous, unpretentious, a joy to live with, and has made me a better man. I'm delighted she said 'yes'. Farts in her sleep though.

See those weird looking black cars that you might recognise from Supernanny? Those are taxis. You can either try and flag one down on the street or ask the hotel concierge to call one for you. Sometimes there are also taxi ranks around various places in Glasgow.

Guys, are you like me and have what my Dad would call, "champagne tastes on a beer budget"? Yeah? Then this is the hotel for you. It's new; it's decent and about a 10 minute car/ taxi ride from the venue. I mean, how long are you actually going to be spending in the room? Surely it's just a place to crash post-wedding drinks and dancing?Premier Inn Pacific Quay is a decent choice. It's right beside BBC Scotland in case you wanted to maybe get tickets to be in the audience for a quiz show?

Hampden cabs are "private hire" cabs meaning you can't flag them down on the street - you need to call them and book a car. They are usually cheaper than the black Glasgow taxis as they only charge by the distance - as opposed to the distance and time of a black cab.

Don't fancy getting a taxi? Than the easiest way to get to Pollokshields Burgh hall is via the train. From Central Station, you can get the Cathcart Circle Line or the Newton line and take it to Maxwell Park.

Glasgow Central Station

I haven't stayed here but it came recommended from the lovely people at Pollokshields Burgh Hall. It's a B&amp;B and decent prices. It's about a 5 minute taxi ride away from the venue and a 20 minute walk.

Glasgow Guest House

This is a brand new hotel opening 13th July and is right across the street from BBC Scotland. It's got a Starbucks and pool, if that's important to you. It's about a 10 minute taxi ride from the venue and seems to be about £80 a night.

Village Urban Resort Glasgow

Maybe you don't want to stay on the Southside of Glasgow and fancied staying in the chaos of downtown Glasgow? Well, there are loads and loads of hotels to choose from. CitizenM has come recommended and is about £90 a night. It's about a 15 minute cab ride to the venue.
