Our story begins during a time when most were thinking the world was ending and life would never be the same again. It was March 2020 and the entire world closed down, but our world together was just opening up.
As far as we can tell, through much discussion, it was the end of November 2019 and we had both just purchased our own homes at relatively the same time. We had both also signed up for Match.com and we believe it was the same day that we signed up. Little did we know that the universe had some plans for us. What happens when you aren’t looking for true love? It finds you. From the first message, to the first call, to the first date. It was obvious that this was not just a run of the mill encounter. So after weeks of texts, calls, discussions on numerous topics, it was decided that March 7th, 2020 would be the first date. And then it happened, Georgina decided, with only 24 hours notice, to put Alan to the test and tell him for the first date: “Lets see what you got. Come up with something for us to do.” So off Alan goes searching for a plan and apparently it worked because we have not been apart since.
Now it’s already a challenge these days to find a match that isn’t crazy, shares your same interests, makes you laugh and just that person to enjoy every part of life with. When you throw in the world shutting down on top of all that, things can get tricky. We decided, with much caution, to just make it work and that’s what we did. We knew it was way to special to just do the easy thing and use a global pandemic to let this be nothing and carry on with our lives. Looking back on this now, we were very lucky to have had the ability to not just be stuck in our own home all day. We spent weekends in the City Home (Georgina’s) and then weekends in the Country Home (Alan’s). Our friends even got used to asking us where we were at any given time: “You guys in the city home of country home?” So with dogs and cats in tow we moved in and out of each other’s house every other weekend. We really got to spend some amazing time getting to know each other and what our lives together could be like when this craziness ended.
The craziness did end, but by that time we knew there would be no going back, we were ALL IN and we were ready for anything the next day would throw at us; until Sonoma, CA. Now some of you know that we had planned, and purchased, a vacation to Thailand. A trip for us to explore the world and enjoy some amazing new experiences together. Well that obviously didn’t happen as traveling became very hard and especially out of the country. So we planned a new trip to wine country. And by plan, I mean PLAN. This new world was different to travel in and so every piece of our days had to be planned and reserved. Georgina spent countless hours researching places to go and book dinner at restaurants we thought looked interesting and good. It wasn’t until the day that she told Alan “Look at this place I found”, that when Alan knew exactly what this trip would end up being. It was a relatively unknown winery, high up in the mountains, but had a beautiful charm about it. It looked amazing and so she booked a tasting for us. What she didn’t realize is that on the other side of the relationship, Alan was booking a different experience at this winery. So with a beautiful shiny diamond ring in hand, Alan was ready to pack his bags to take the trip that would change his life forever with the woman he wanted forever with. Now Alan doesn’t let much of anything really get to him and make him nervous but when you are sitting in a hot tub enjoying a nice evening chatting about life, the future, the present etc. and then the woman you are ready to ask to spend forever with tells you a wild and crazy story about how she and her friend (Mack) were talking about the upcoming trip and Mack asks, “what are you going to do if Alan asks you to marry you?” and the response was, “oh we aren’t anywhere near that or ready for that or going to do that”, this gets Alan nervous. Well after some harried conversation with Mack about what was going on and what to do….. it was decided to move forward and never look back or question our love. So off we go on an amazing trip to Sonoma, CA. It was day two of our trip and that beautiful out of the way winery was awaiting our presence. After introductions and chatting and tasting some wine, it was time to take a trip up the mountain and into the vineyard. What seemed like a fun ATV ride up the hill and to a perfect spot to view the expansive landscape and taste wine, turned into Alan taking Georgina to the side, getting down on one knee, and promising to love her forever. She said YES!!! (whew).
The rest as they say is history. Through this journey we have met many friends and family that have encouraged and blessed us and helped us share many fun times, experiences, and laughs. We laugh every day, we love every day, and we appreciate to the fullest every moment we share with each other.
We are blessed to have you be a part of this day because you are such an important part of how we got here.
With our deepest love and gratefulness,
Alan & Georgina
