Details

As the wedding will take place in Antigua Guatemala, here is a list of details we're sure you'd like to take note on upon arrival!

AIRPORT MIGRATION

Before take off to Guatemala don't forget to fill out the migration form online (link attached below). Same procedure goes when leaving the country.

Weather in Guatemala

The weather in December is "chilly" but sunny.

Minimum 53ºF = 12ºC Maximum 75ºF = 24ºC

Might have very sunny days so the temperature can go up a little bit but definitely bring a sweater for the windy nights.

Recommendations

Sunblock:

- The sun can burn even when the weather is cloudy.

Drinks and Food:

- Drink only bottled water

- Avoid street food (even if it looks really good)

Money + Currency:

- The official currency of Guatemala is the Guatemalan Quetzal (GTQ). $1 USD is roughly ~8 GTQ (or 100 GTQ is roughly ~$13).

- While there are many places around town that accept credit cards (especially those that cater to tourists), it is still a good idea to have cash on hand for those that don’t. You will need cash for entrance fees, shopping at the local markets, street food, tips, and tuk-tuk or taxi fares.

Clothing

Everyday Clothing

- Very comfy shoes for walking. The streets in Antigua Guatemala are cobblestone.

- Sweater for the windy nights, if it's cloudy you might use it during the day.

- Depending on the activities you're planning on doing, check on the recommendations from the places you'll visit in Guatemala, you'll probably need different type of footwear or clothing depending on each activity. (For example you'll need specific clothing and footwear if you plan on visiting the Pacaya or Acatenango Volcano).

Wedding Clothing

- Formal / Black Tie Attire -

Women:

- Heels: The cobblestone streets can be tricky to walk on stilettos, so would definitely recommend using block, stacked and wedge heels.

- Dress: Midi dress and preferably Maxi dress

Men:

- Suit and Tie/Bowtie

Other Recomendations

- Don’t walk around alone at night, try staying always in a group, or rather than walk, grab a tuk tuk or Uber.

- Don’t carry around unnecessary cash or credit cards. Only the essentials.

- While most people walking around now have smart phones, avoid flashy electronics or jewelry.

- Make sure to only take registered taxis or shuttles. I prefer Uber because of the tracking capabilities.
