Picture it, CT 2018, I was living in Hamden, CT, and working for a Shelton Company - I felt stuck in neutral and needed a change. I was thinking of moving out of state and starting anew..... I just needed to feel alive again....little did I know I was setting in motion fate's plan!
Let's jump up a bit to April 2019, I had uprooted myself, new job, new State! I made the move to DC and was wrapping my head around being officially on my own and making my own way in the world. I felt exhilarated, I couldn't believe I had actually done it. I met some of the most amazing people in this world, I knew that if nothing else, I was still on the right path.
Now how in the world did this Yankee girl from CT find herself in North Carolina - so glad you asked! The job opportunity I had taken in DC was finishing up and I had to make a decision, go back to CT and work for my original company or make my way further south! I got the opportunity to make my move to North Carolina and I am forever grateful to my Boss Chris Metcalf for making this dream of mine a reality - he made it so I could live anywhere in the world and work from home for that same Shelton Company!
Now, let's start talking about what you came here for....how did you meet Mitchell King?
Well you see, after checking out the online dating scene in NC I was hitting dud after dud, so I opened up a bottle of Josh Red Wine and decided to root through one last round of Facebook Dating profiles and if I didn't see anyone that I liked I would call it quits.....well..... up pops a photo of a hunk of a man playing with Puppies - (yeah, he knew what he was doing with that photo)! I threw caution to the wine glass and liked his photos, all of them... just to make sure he saw me haha.
Now we are getting closer to our timeline, so hang on guys, almost there. After two weeks of texting and talking to each other, I finally got Mitchell to ask me out on a date, (my friend Sam was a bit leary about him, as Mitchell was forever asking questions to the unth degree) haha I knew I had to meet him, I had to see this man that was exciting me and driving me a bit nuts at the same time.
Our First Date: Here we are, Friday, September 18th, (or as Mitchell likes to say, "August sometime") Mitchell chose a Polish restaurant downtown Raleigh, (which unfortunately the Restaurant has since closed down). We met in the parking lot and as soon as I laid eyes on him I was taken aback, (good lord was the man handsome and tall). He was so sweet and surprised me with a bottle of Whiskey I had been searching heaven and earth for, (Leadslingers). He remembered a random comment I had made early on in our texting/talking stage - now that is a man! We ended up closing down the restaurant together and then talking in the parking lot for an additional 2-3 hours, it was simply amazing! Best date ever!!!
March 10th, 2022, a date that will forever be close to my heart. I had just traveled back from a work trip, (the flight from Boston to Raleigh was insane and turbulent, to say the least). I was sick to my stomach by the time I got off the plane and home. I was in such a rough mood that I couldn't wait to hug Mitchell when he got home. Once Mitchell is home and we are briefly talking about our days, I tell him to get cleaned up and I would be out on the couch, no more than 2 seconds after I sat down on the couch to finally rest my eyes, Mitchell calls me from the bedroom closet....."Babe, can you come see if this belt and shoe combo match?" now if you know me, you know my response was something along the lines of....."Mitchell why on earth do we care about a F****ing belt and shoe combo right n..." I come into our room and peer around the open closet door, and I went deaf, I couldn't hear anything this Handsome man was saying to me - I did catch, "Will you Marry Me?" I stumbled back a bit and then fell right into him on the floor of our closet. I cried on his shoulder for what felt like forever, and he was so sweet, holding me and laughing and trying to grab my hand to place the ring on it. I told him that, we have to buy this house, I can't let anyone else have our closet! haha
Now let's speed things up a bit, we now have a house and a life together and we are getting married!! I can't believe how lucky we are that we found each other. I am forever grateful to the version of me that needed more in life, because of that decision back in 2018, life is forever better!
