BY FERRY - the Spirit of Tasmania comes into Devonport, which is very convenient! You can also bring your car, which means you won't need to hire one. It does take about 12 hours though, which is less convenient.
BY PLANE - the closest airport is Devonport (40 mins drive to Wilmot), but it is often a lot cheaper to fly into Launceston (1h50 mins drive to Wilmot). Don't fly into Hobart unless you are planning a day's road trip, it's a 6 hour drive away!
From either Launie or Devonport, you will need a car to get to Wilmot - unless you are getting the bus we are chartering from Devonport. It's a windy road - please be very careful, especially after dark!
We will be running a bus from Devonport to Wilmot and back on the day, as accommodation in Devonport is much easier to find! The bus will depart from Devonport at 1pm and from Wilmot at 10.30pm (first bus) and 12.00am (late bus). Please let us know in your RSVP if you'd like to be on the bus.
There are lots of options for accommodation in the area! If you're not planning to drive, you'll need to stay in Devonport so you can be on the charter bus.
IF YOU'RE FEELING VERY BRAVE, and have the right gear, Paul is very happy for people to camp in his garden. I cannot stress how cold it will be, but I know there are some outdoorsy people among us, so please by all means bring your tent and thermals and have at it.
ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS IN DEVONPORT:
Not an exhaustive list, so please feel free to do your own research, but here are a few!
The Novotel Devonport - we have a special discount rate negotiated here, though this link only! (if enough people book here, this will likely be the pickup and dropoff point for the bus)
Gateway Hotel by Nightcap Plus
There are also quite a few apartments etc on AirBnB and booking.com!
ACCOMMODATION IN THE WILMOT AREA - CAR NECESSARY
Ubers do not come out to Wilmot I'm afraid! So to stay in one of these places you will need a hire car and a designated driver on the night. Please be so aware - the road to Wilmot is very windy and there's lots of wildlife! Our biggest priority is everyone staying safe, so please feel free to reach out if you have transport concerns and we will work on a solution together. There are a few places around, I've just listed a few of the bigger ones below. Also make sure you do a Google Maps check before booking anywhere - places can look close but take a lot longer to get to than you might expect!
Cradle Forest Cottages - a 14 minute drive from Wilmot, 8 cottages in total that can be booked! Haven't been there but they look lovely!
Cradle Gateway Chalets - also a 14 minute drive, 6 cottages there by the looks of it.
Lemonthyme Wilderness Retreat - a 33 minute drive from Wilmot, towards Cradle Mountain. If you want to turn the weekend into a bit of a wilderness getaway, this could be for you!
Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge - if you're feeling fancy!! 39 minute drive from Wilmot and on the $$ side, but lush.
