The Groom

Ginnethon

This is it. I can't believe the girl I used to annoy is now going to be my wife!!!

When I met my first group of friends in college at Silliman University, Kamele and Joshua, we immediately became friends like family. They treated me like their "son," and I didn't know they had a "daughter," Kera. I first noticed her at our college department and initially thought she was annoying and snobby. However, as I got to know her, I discovered she was always positive, smiling, and laughing when we were together with the FAMBAM.

We started off like cats and dogs, always arguing over little things. We even promised not to fall in love with each other, but as we spent time together, I began developing feelings for her.

As time passed, it was summer break. I'd often message Kera at 4 am (since she was always online watching TV dramas). I already had some feelings for her but hadn't confessed yet. I'd joke around, making pick-up lines, cringy quotes, and even cheesy messages, which was my way of expressing my crush on her. We chatted back and forth until the break was over.

When we finally met in person after the summer break, it was so awkward, haha. Then I started confessing my feelings in person and began courting her, and now we're getting married.

It was a roller coaster ride. We do have our hard times, especially since we are both dominant. We tend to argue about things we don't agree on, but this is one of the best things we have in our relationship: the freedom to express what we want, and because of the friendship we built.

She was the best thing that happened to me. Despite our many differences, there are more things that we agree on. We share the same hobbies, interests, and most importantly, we share the same faith.

We've had our ups and downs, even took a break for a while, but God had a plan and brought us back together. A solid plan that's still being worked on. I can't thank God enough for this wonderful gift of marrying my best friend.

I first noticed Ethon at Silliman Church, and I'm thrilled to know that it's the same church where we will be tying the knot.

We were both part of the Covenant choir, and that's where I first laid eyes on him. I still vividly recall him wearing a blue polo shirt. My college close friend and I were playfully scouting among the new choir members, trying to determine who we found cute and could potentially be our crush. That's when I noticed Ethon.

Ever since that day, I couldn't stop thinking about him. We hadn't even had a conversation yet, and he didn't know me at all, but something about him made me feel like he was the one I had been praying for and describing to God for a long time. I was heartbroken at the time and prayed to God that whoever the next person I fell in love with would be the last man I ever loved. I asked God for many signs, and it's funny how they always seemed to align with Ethon.

When he courted me, the first sign I prayed for from God was if this guy would stand beside me when it rained, I would say yes. And sure enough, it rained, and he stood beside me outside our college department.

Fast forward, after 5 years, we broke up for a while. It was heartbreaking, but we trusted God that whatever His will was for us, we would accept it. After 3 months, he crossed oceans for me. He pursued me again, and now, we have been together for 8 years.

At that time, I was traveling back and forth between Pagadian and Molave, and every time I sat on a bus, I always daydreamed that the next person I knew who would sit beside me would be the person I would marry.

And once again, it was Ethon. As they say, the rest is history.
