Some love stories start in unexpected places by chance, while others begin finding each other in a shared hobby. Gloimai and Ashwin’s love story started pursuing their dream.

Gloimai and Ashwin met during their first year of medical school. While just friends at first, their paths continued to cross through mutual friends, where a quiet chemistry asserted itself in the air between them. It all changed when Gloimai moved in to the same apartment building as Ashwin and quite literally became the girl next door. They quickly blossomed into something more. He shared his Wifi with her; she shared Topo Chicos with him daily. Through grueling medical board exams, COVID lockdowns, and lengthy hospital rotations, the young couple quickly found close solace in each other. Ashwin’s fear of dogs was healed through Gloimai’s 10 year old dog, Shiner, and Gloimai’s resistance to seasoning meals with salt was remedied by Ashwin’s culinary craft. Between daily dog walks along the San Antonio Riverwalk and the hours spent watching the Spurs chase down an 8 seed, love is an easy thing. They traveled the coasts from LA to Florida finding joy in experiencing the world with one you love. It wasn’t long until they were traveling the globe. From the Dominican Republic to meeting Gloimai’s family in Thailand, they walked hand in hand. In fact, Ashwin almost proposed in Thailand! (He just didn’t have a ring)

The memories forged in their lives in downtown San Antonio laid the foundation for their next challenge — 400 miles of distance. With Ashwin in Oklahoma and Gloimai in Texas, the two found new ways to share their love. Through daily FaceTimes and painstakingly planned out visits between busy residency schedules, the two have been able to share their experiences without missing a beat and grow together in both love and in life.

As we recount a tale of how two souls who found each other amidst the backdrop of friendship and weathered the storm of denial to embrace a love that was always meant to be, their journey has been a testament to the transformative power of love, the resilience of the human heart, and their dedication to each other. After graduating residency this upcoming year, they cannot wait to bridge the physical gap and build a life together. Their story is a daily reminder that love has no boundaries.
