The Eagle River downtown has shops for any type of visitor, whether it’s to feed an appetite, acquire the rental for an adventure, or discover the crafts and antiques for long-time keepsakes. In some ways, the downtown is just as diverse as the Eagle River area’s outdoor playground of lakes, trails and routes.

Now is the time to reintroduce yourself – or to discover – the charming downtown of Eagle River. The wide sidewalks and friendly, slow-moving traffic make it the perfect place to enjoy a day of shopping, eating, and creating memories. Check out some of the options that make a trip downtown worth its while.

We don't like to show off. We let our trees do that! Fall is a beautiful time for a wedding and to visit northern Wisconsin where the forests and hillsides are ablaze with vibrant colors of red, yellow, orange, and purple.


FUEL UP YOUR BELLY AND YOUR CAR AND HIT THE ROAD FOR A FULL-DAY TOUR

Follow these directions to get the best views of fall color in the area. And keep your eye out for some bald eagles and other exciting wildlife while you’ve got your eyes on the skies.

Take Hwy 45 N to Conover, turn left onto Cty K West.

Follow to Cty M near Boulder Junction.

Turn right onto Cty M and follow Cty M into and out of Boulder Junction to Cty B.

Turn left onto Cty B and follow until it becomes Hwy 64 in Michigan at the state boarder.

Continue north on Hwy 64 to the shores of Lake Superior. Here’s your chance to take in the sites at the Porcupine Mountains State Park.

Continue on Hwy 64 to Ontonagon where you will turn right and head south on Hwy 45. Follow Hwy 45 to Hwy M 28 and turn left.

STOP and take in the beautiful Agate Falls. Continue on M28 East to Mile W, turn right and follow to Calderwood Rd then turn right.

Turn right onto Bond Falls Rd and take it to the spectacular Bond Falls, get out and walk alongside the waterfall from top to bottom.

Continue west on Bond Falls Rd. to Hwy 45 where you will turn left to go south back to Eagle River.


COLORFUL DAY TRIPS

If you’re looking to stay near Eagle River, you’re in luck, because we still have colorful fall views and tons of fall festivities without the long drive.

CLIMB AN OBSERVATION TOWER

Head to Copper Peak in Ironwood, MI for some sky-high views. See the colors from above and take in the scenic beauty and fresh fall air while you’re up there.

TAKE A SCENIC DRIVE

Head out on our long and windy scenic highways. For some heavily forested views take Hwy 45 N to Conover and turn left onto Cty K West or Hwy 70 east and turn left onto Kentuck Rd.

GET SCENIC OFF THE ROAD

Take a tour on the water to see some spectacular views from the Chain of 28 Lakes with Pirate’s Hideaway or Bill Hassey’s Boat Tours. Just don’t forget to bring an extra layer of clothing for those brisk fall days. Or get in the thick of the color with an ATV/UTV ride.

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN COLOR

Visit our area parks for an eyeful of fall color. We recommend stopping by Eagle Lake County Park, Dyer Park (T-docks) and hitting up all of our hiking and biking trails. If you’re really pressed for time, we say to start with the Three Eagle Trail to make the most of your short trip.

Bond Falls Waterfalls

Bond Falls is a waterfall on the middle branch of the Ontonagon River, a few miles east of Pauling in southern Ontonagon County, Michigan. The total drop of the falls is about 50 feet. Trails lead to and from the falls from a picnic area atop the falls.

Franklin Nature Trail

The Franklin Nature Trail is a gorgeous hiking trail located east of Eagle River and north of Three Lakes, Wisconsin. The trail is a short 1 mile loop that is mostly flat. The trail is an interpretive trail, with 21 stopping spots along the trail to learn about the area and the flora and fauna.

Lake of the Clouds is one of the premier hiking spots in not only the Porcupine Mountain State Park, but in all of Michigan. There are over 80 miles of marked hiking trails, including secluded lakes, waterfalls and high surrounding peaks. Make sure to give yourself enough time to experience all of the attractions the area has to offer.
