How We Met

Grace's Version:

Matt and I met in high school. My stepdad worked with his dad, and my family was hosting a party for the law practice at our McLean home. From the moment I laid eyes on Matt, I was smitten. With his Justin Beiber haircut and cool guy attitude, I did not stand a chance. After (what I perceived to be) flirting for hours, I thought there may be potential for something more. The moment he and his family left our home, I proceeded to add him on Facebook, only to be met with no acceptance. In fact, the next day, I couldn't even find his Facebook profile on the website. I chalked the entire encounter up to he was not interested in me, and a week later, Matt was a distant memory (sorry Matt!). I went on to college, completing my four years at the College of Charleston (Go Cougs!) and returned to the DC area upon graduation. Shortly after returning I was invited to Matt's brother's wedding as a family friend, causing our paths to cross once more. Despite a bruised ego, I was still interested in Matt. This time, however, I was certainly not going to make the first move. While we were sneaking eyes at each other here and there, we left without exchanging numbers. A week later I was surprised to receive a text from an unknown number asking if I “had a good time” at the wedding. Realizing it was Matt was a really special moment…and the rest is history :)

Matt's Version:

As Grace mentioned, we met in high school while I was at her stepdad's work party. My first impression of Grace was that she was attractive, funny, and definitely not interested in me. At one point in our conversation that night, Grace mentioned she was going out after the work event. She seemed shocked that I wasn't doing the same. "Staying in on a Friday night?! Who does that..." or something along those lines. Grace seemed very cool to me, and while being attracted to her I didn't think I stood a chance. After the event, I saw her Facebook friend request come through my computer. My Facebook at this time really only consisted of a blurry photo of me playing soccer and very few pictures with friends. I truly thought her request was almost a "pity" one because of our family ties. I promptly deleted Facebook after seeing her request, as I was not going to let her think I was any less cool than she probably already did. I went on to attend the University of Richmond and after college, saw Grace again at my brother's wedding. While I didn't muster the courage to get her number at the event, we had a mutual friend, and I was able to get her number from him. I texted her after the wedding, and the rest is history.
