Errigal Mountain Hike Parking Base camp

Errigal Mountain, Dunlewey, Moneymore, Co. Donegal, Ireland

Errigal mountain is a beautiful and rewarding hike that takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete! The Mountain starting point is located along the R251 road here where parking is available at the base. There is a gravel path to start in the bog for about 0.9 miles before starting to climb the steps on the face of the mountain. If you don’t want to tackle the steepness/more difficult part towards the end we would suggest stopping at the steps! The total distance is about 2.8 miles. The views at the top are gorgeous.

Glenveagh National Park is the second biggest National Park in Ireland. It also holds Glenveagh Castle, where you can eat, drink tea, tour the castle and take in the stunning views. There is a large car park for parking. The Park walks vary in both length and difficulty. The main trails are:

The Lakeside Walk (easy, not a loop and takes 40 mins)

Derrylahan Nature Trail (moderate, 45 mins looped trail)

The Garden Trail (easy, 1 hour looped trail)

The Viewpoint Trail (tough, 35 min looped trail

Lough Inshagh Walk (tough, 1.5 hour liner trail)

Glen / Bridle Path Walk (moderate, 2 hour trail)

Pictured above is the lakeside walk which we would recommend. If you would like to go deeper into this glen and see more of the beautiful lake and waterfall follow on to the bridal path which is just past the castle!
