WELCOME TO THE #PARTYHARVEY !!
Grace & Kevin have known of each other for several years through attending the same church & having overlapping social circles. It wasn't until 2022 when The Lord really aligned their paths... they ended up being in the same wedding, serving on a mission trip to the Philippines, and even had work offices next to each other (unplanned). They got to know each other intentionally for about six months before it was pretty clear that the timing & match was right- and on May 17th 2023 they officially started dating after Kevin asked Grace out at Disneyland! Right off the bat, the two communicated that their intentions behind dating were for the purpose of marriage. On December 8th 2023, after a few months of purposeful, intimate, yet fun and adventure filled dating- Kevin popped the question! It was received with a warm, smiley, and excited- YES!
Back in 2021, Grace had her podcast (Beat the Culture) running in full swing meanwhile Kevin was doing the same with his youtube channel (Our King's Commission). The two had both heard of each other and their uniquely similar passion projects. They ran into each other for a formal introduction at Doulos, the young adults ministry at Faith Bible Church. From then on, they would talk at group events about all things business (the two also owned their own businesses), social media, theology, and more. An intentional friendship was beginning to grow...
As this friendship grew, the two continued living their separate lives. Unbeknownst to them- they were each enduring their own seasons of singleness- time that they had carved out to stay out of the dating world. Grace wanted to focus on The Lord and growing her character, Kevin wanted to focus on his seminary classes & loving The Lord with all his heart. They both cherished that season and how The Lord grew them during that time to prepare them for what was next to come...
On October 8th 2022, Grace was hanging out with her friend Rebecca. Rebecca had been dating her boyfriend Josh for over a year and was eagerly anticipating getting engaged... but her friend Grace was still so single. How could they double date? "Would you ever be interested in any guys around Josh's age?" Grace thought for a moment, as none of the guys around Josh's age really caught her eye... "well... hmmm, the only one I think I could maybe be interested in would be Kevin Harvey." Rebecca took that and RANNNN... By the next day, Josh was already asking Kevin how he felt about a girl named Grace Walker... Grace was MORTIFIED. "I said I could MAYBE be interested, not that I was! He barely knows me, he probably thinks that is so weird... I'm so embarrassed." And for the next month and a half, she hid from him at church. But, Kevin hadn't said no to the idea of Grace, and it opened up both of their minds to a more realistic potential.
November 25th 2022 - Rebecca and Josh get engaged!! And they had invited some friends to help set up the proposal. Grace, who has now developed a not so secret crush, "slyly" follows Kevin around all day. They get some conversation in, but not enough to mean much. However, she does accidentally run into a pole while talking to him and Carlos at the Aldus' engagement party, so that gave the crush dead away. Josh & Becca ask both Grace & Kevin to be in their wedding party, and thus opens a whole new door for them to be in the same circle more often!
Grace is praying without ceasing about this Kevin guy. She genuinely is so attracted to his godly character, his business mind, his intellect... he would make SUCH a great husband! But she still had a few more months of singleness so it would be best to put the feelings to rest.. She turns her focus onto The Lord and serving Him, and decided to check out the interest meeting for her church's summer mission trip the The Philippines. And as God would have it, Kevin showed up too. Long story short- they ended up on a mission team together. Yet another door opened for them to be in another same circle!
As if God hadn't aligned their paths enough with the wedding & the mission trip... you will never believe the next part of this story (like we literally still can't get over this). Grace had a social media client who's office she went to once a week in Murrieta, and Kevin's company just so happened to sign a new lease for the office building right across the way. Out of ALL the offices in the Temecula Valley??? That is just God's sovereign work in a nutshell. Grace strategically started a groupchat called "Plaza Pals" where her & Vivian sent these photos of them "looking at their new neighbors" Kevin and David. These funny group text photos turned into the two seeing each other on a weekly basis in the parking lot before work! Which morphed into before & after work, and then into lunch, and then into during work, so on & so forth.
To save a lot of time, let's just say there were a lot of shenanigans that happened from January - May of 2023. Whether it be office flings, making keto balls (healthy treats) for each other, bringing soup to each other when they got sick, group hangouts with the Aldus wedding party, etc. And all of these individual stories are so cute and fun that they are going to be written on each of the tables for you all to enjoy at the wedding! This season of life was SO sweet and SO exciting. It was the season of "pre-dating" as we like to call it. But, it was so intentional that by the time May came around, it was full steam ahead for the two lovebirds... but we have to tell ONE more significant lead up story for the big day in May to come full circle, so let's hear about April 8th...
Kevin needed some help with social media for his youtube channel "Our Kings Commission", and naturally he asked Grace (she did social media marketing for a living & he was interested in her... two birds one stone). The two agreed to meet at Starbucks for a "business meeting" at 11:30am... Grace rushed straight from working as a Disney princess at a kids' birthday party (this is when/why the nickname name "princess" formed). Together they sat and met for about 30 minutes regarding social media... but they didn't leave Starbucks for another 5.5 hours. They had LOT'S to talk about, all under the umbrellas of friends, past stories, business, and of course- theology. One topic they stuck on had to do with the book of Ruth and how "If it's traditional for the guy to make the first move, was it totally wrong for Ruth to have proposed to Boaz in such a way?" Kevin, picking up her not so subtle question of whether or not she should make the first move (which she never would have fully done, btw, she's too stubborn. She'd hint into oblivion but that's about it), responded "If a woman has well researched the man, and he is a solid, godly man, I think it is well within her right to drop the handkerchief and get his attention ;)" I think you could say that the handkerchief had been dropped.
The big day where Kevin officially asked Grace out! It had been long awaited... but their seasons of singleness had officially came to an end & the timing was right. The Aldus wedding party took a trip to Disneyland where Kevin had some big tricks up his sleeve. Towards the sunset, Kevin strategically blocked Grace from getting on the Ferris Wheel in CA Adventure with the rest of the group. They went to hop on the next one alone- but to Kevin's dismay, a single rider joined them! It was too awkward with that random guy in there, so Kevin had to hold off through the ride and make a plan B for when they got off. Plan B? Ask her during World of Color- a beautiful Disney water show over the Pixar Pier. But of course- this plan wasn't working out either because they got stuck in line for Cars and were LATE to the show! When they finally exited the ride, they took off running, lost everyone in the group, only to find out that the show was over??? Ahhhhh- what now? "Sir, is the World of Color show already over?" Kevin asked a cast member. "No- it starts at 9!" Aha! So they were actually early! "But- seats are reservation only and we're at max capacity" Oof. Kevin looked around rapidly and booked another direction, winded Grace behind him expected to follow, when the cast member called out "Excuse me!!!!" Ahhh- they were going to get in trouble for running, Grace thought. The cast member waived her over and she took a sheepish step in his direction... only to be told that he was going to slip them into the front row section! Kevin praised the Lord, as he knew what he was about to do next deserved a front row seat. When they finally settled down in their spot, he went to grab something from his backpack. There, he pulled out a yellow, custom designed, handkerchief (made by his sis in law, Dana #BirdoftheMountains). "Do you remember that day a few weeks ago that we went to Starbucks and had the conversation about a woman dropping her handkerchief to catch the eye of a man? Well- you dropped this, but I picked it up. And I was hoping you would give me the honor to pursue and date you?" - Grace froze in shock considering this was like a romance novel, but after a quick moment she snapped into reality, beaming, and said "I would love that!!!"
Dating life was so fun and felt much longer than it lasted. Only a few weeks after the first date, the two went to the Philippines where they were able to learn each other on a deeper level QUICK (being with someone for 2.5 weeks straight 24hrs a day on a mission trip does that to ya. As Shawn Farrell says about missions trips... "they're marriage makers or marriage breakers"). Shortly after coming home, they traveled to Idaho for Grace's cousins wedding & to see family, roadtripped to see friends. They took a Biblical counseling class together through FBC, began serving in the same Children's ministry class, and started seeing how their lives worked into each others. They folded in pretty seamlessly- of course with the occasional differences but were able to work out the rough spots... And it became apparent by the end of the year that they REALLY wanted to get married!
Grace was anticipating a ring. They had had open dialogue about engagement and marriage for months (literally since date 1) and they were approaching the timeframe that Kevin had hinted at. She started getting her nails & hair done and dressing up for every date! But there was one date in particular where she knew it was most likely happening... they were going to Disneyland on December 9th. A little cheesy that he'd do it in public at the place he asked her out- but whatever, she was just excited to get engaged (Lord willing)!!! But then some weird things started happening- like her parents asked if she would work an event the morning of Dec 9th and Kevin told her to do it, even though he was paying for their (PRICEY) Disney tickets that day? The night before (December 8th), Kevin said he wanted to take Grace out on a date. "We have a LONG day tomorrow so I want to get home early" Grace sassed. But who could blame her? She had to wake up early, work, get camera ready for a proposal, go to Disneyland, get engaged (hahahah yep- she was THAT confident it would be tomorrow). "Okay I'll get you home early! But dress nice and we're leaving at 6!" Kevin said. Grace got ready and Kevin picked her up and drove her all the way to San Diego. Grace was a little irritated that they were doing such a big date before a big day, but tried to be positive and not stressed about the late night. When they arrived, they boarded onto this big yacht and were greeted with a champagne welcome. "Wait- this is my DREAM DATE!!" Grace exclaimed. It was true- she had been dying to go on a dinner cruise along the San Diego harbor on a yacht since romanticizing the opening of "The Parent Trap" when she was little. They were escorted to a private table by the window, and served a three course meal with an amazing view. The two ran around the ship in between courses to explore and enjoy a rooftop 360 degree view of the city lights. It was a dream. "This is literally my DREAM date" Grace exclaimed again "the only thing that would make it better is if you would propose!" Dang- she was blunt. Kevin was used to it though and laughed a big ole belly laugh. Little did she know... Right after they finished dinner, the two each used the restroom. Grace looked in the mirror before going back outside and said "hmmm- maybe he really will propose tonight and this is my last time looking in the mirror before I become a fiancé!?" Meanwhile, Kevin was in the other bathroom texting Vivian to get into place to photograph what was about to happen. The couple went downstairs to take a photo in front of the Christmas tree and in a blurry 3 minutes, Kevin dropped down to one knee and put it simply "Grace, I love you, will you marry me?" The whole ship started turning heads and cheering, meanwhile she was in shock- but after snapping out of it she said YES!!!
