It all began at Grand Canyon University, where Alfred played on the tennis team and Gretchen ran cross country and track. Their paths first crossed in a marketing class Gretchen in the front row, Alfred a few seats back. For weeks, they exchanged quick glances until Alfred, determined not to miss his chance, introduced himself during “social time.” That simple conversation sparked the beginning of something neither of them could have imagined.

It didn’t take long for their friendship to turn into something more. One afternoon, Alfred raced after Gretchen on his mini scooter just to walk her home a gesture she’ll never forget. Soon after, what was meant to be a casual smoothie date at Jamba Juice turned into a six-hour conversation that stretched late into the night. From that moment forward, their days were filled with long talks, study dates, coffee shop Bible studies, and adventures both big and small.

Their love continued to grow through hikes up Camelback Mountain, evenings of swing dancing, and traveling across the world. Gretchen’s heart was quickly welcomed into Alfred’s family in Slovakia, and Alfred won over Gretchen’s family just as easily. Together, they built a relationship rooted in faith, laughter, and a sense of adventure.

Then, in the summer of 2025, while hiking through the breathtaking Italian Alps, Alfred got down on one knee and asked Gretchen to be his wife. With tears in her eyes and joy in her heart, she said yes knowing it was the easiest and most certain answer of her life.

Now, their greatest adventure begins: a lifetime of exploring together, building a family, and keeping Christ at the center of their marriage as they grow side by side.
