Nick and Haddy met on a random weekend at Saint Mary's University. Nick was a freshman and Haddy was a sophomore. Haddy had stubbed her toe running around the campus barefoot (don't ask), so, naturally, she ran into a random house, which ended up being Nick's. She was bleeding all over his counters and floors and he said, "You're BLEEDING all over my COUNTER!!!" (Haddy has a video of this!) Nick bandaged Haddy's toe with a paper towel and hockey tape.
It was love at first sight!
Kidding!
Nick and Haddy went their separate ways, running into each other at campus, in our weight room, and in the classrooms. Nick and Noah, Nick's twin brother whom he lived with all 4 years of college, dubbed a new name for Haddy, "Haddy with the toe."
Haddy ended up living directly below Nick's house a year later. His stairs were over Haddy's room. Every morning at 5 am sharp, Haddy would wake up from the sprinting up and down the staircase as the boys were getting ready for 6 am lifts.
So there it goes, for 3 years "Haddy with the toe" and "Nick, a kid on the hockey team with loud feet" never spoke again.
Until 2023.
Haddy was a senior in college. She was working a part time job and finishing up her classes at SMU. She had just completed her senior year soccer season and was excited to move on with her life!
Nick was a junior in college and just had a major rotator cuff and labral shoulder surgery. He was in an UltraSling for 6 weeks (the black slings with a bulky pillow on the inside).
Nick snap chatted her (lame, we know!), asking if she was available to go to a dance on March 25th. This was the famous annual "Hockey Formal". SMU is a small school and usually does not have any formal dances, so SMU men's hockey team decided to host a dance themselves. Each team player had one invitation to invite someone, anyone they wanted! Haddy had never been to the famous "Hockey formal" and Nick had a small crush on Haddy at the time.
The dance is, illegally, held at one of the SMU dorm buildings, called Yon's, also called "the 9 man". It's a building that 9 of the men on SMU hockey team live in.
Haddy worked that evening and had to "leave work" because of a "mandatory school event". She arrived to the dance a few hours late and was welcomed with a beer from Nick.
Haddy and Nick ended up hanging out the entire night and bonded over everything there is to talk about.
We continued to talk and hangout. Our first date was watching "Grand Budapest Hotel" at the 9 man, the infamous formal dance location.
We continued to talk and call each other while Haddy went to Africa for a month.
When Haddy returned from Africa and went to visit Nick in Winona, the night before he asked her to be his girlfriend, Haddy woke up in the middle of the night, turned on the lights and asked "When are you going to ask me out??!" Which is ironic because Nick was planning on asking her the next day.
Nick FINALLY asked Haddy to be his girlfriend after 4 months of "talking".
We dated through Nick's senior year and while Haddy was living at home. We would make weekend long trips to visit one another.
Fast forward through a year of long distance, Nick moved in with Haddy at their apartment in Edina, MN after he graduated from SMU.
On Christmas Eve in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico, Nick asked Haddy to spend the rest of her life with him.
We are so excited to have you here for our Wedding!
All our love,
Nick and Hads
