Sean: “As I previously stated, Hailee and I love UMBC and it’s a very special place for both of us. I knew I wanted to surprise Hailee on the bridge near the pond and have it decorated with lights. A few years back we went to a light show at the Nationals stadium and she loved it, so I knew there had to be lights and ideally some water. Of course, UMBC could offer me both. It was a perfect. I reached out to Mr. Dennis and asked for his blessing. Mr. Dennis and Mrs. Treena then worked behind the scenes to have a surprise party for our families ready to go after the proposal. It was an incredible event that I’m forever appreciative of. I knew I had to trick Hailee, and that’s where Allison and Steph came in (thank you both for all the help!) I asked them to make up a dinner plan for that night that would involve Hailee getting dressed up. While the girls were going to dinner, I told Hailee I was meeting one of my friends at UMBC. Right before the girls left for dinner, I frantically called Hailee saying my car had a flat tire and that I left the key that unlocks the bolts at the house. When Hailee arrived, I told her to meet me near a certain building. When she walked down, she could see the bridge and arch that I brought lit up with lights (I could not have decorated everything without the help of my Mom, Dad, and Allyson!). When Hailee finally made it to the bridge, she could not stop laughing and smiling where as I could not stop shaking. I told her how much I loved her and asked her to marry me. She said yes!”

Hailee: The day Sean proposed I was in a horrible mood. I had a horrible day at work and left work early that day to go to Target and shop. I thought I was just going to dinner that night with my sisters. When I got home, I noticed Sean looked awfully nice to just go study with a friend at UMBC. After he left, I just had a feeling I should take some extra time getting ready that night. He called that he had an issue with his tire, which made sense because he had gotten a flat about two weeks before. When I got to UMBC and walked towards the pond, I saw the lights and immediately started laughing. I don't think I stopped until he got down on one knee. My horrible day had become one of the best days of my life and I can't wait to spend many more married to my best friend!
