Matt and Haileigh met on a dating app in October of 2023. What started as one round of drinks at Cosmic soon turned into another, and before they knew it several hours had passed. The couple spent the next two months going on more dates and continuing to get to know each other. Haileigh was drawn to Matt's thoughtfulness and creativity, and Matt appreciated just how easy it was to converse with Haileigh and how restored he felt after spending time with her.

For their sixth date, Matt took Haileigh to see "The Book of Mormon." That was when they realized they had something special. The couple started spending more time together, meeting each other's friends and family, and bonding over their shared faith and mutual love of musicals, dining, and "The West Wing."

In December of 2024, the couple spent Christmas in Virginia with Matt's family. Matt's mom worked at a winery, and a story was concocted that they would be attending a Christmas Eve party at the winery. Matt and Haileigh arrived "early" for a tour and private tasting. And there--in front of a roaring fire, with champagne and a bouquet of roses, and wearing matching "Lord of the Rings" Christmas sweaters--Matt asked Haileigh to marry him.
