Like many modern love stories, Haleigh and Derek's began on Hinge. After exchanging messages, it was Haleigh who took the initiative to suggest meeting up. They made plans for a first date at Little City Brewing—a fun, local spot he had picked. Derek arrived early, and she, even earlier. However, due to her indecisive nature, Haleigh second guessed her initial parking spot in fear of getting a parking ticket. She decided to move to another spot which led to, of course, her getting stuck at a railroad crossing waiting for a train. When she finally arrived and saw Derek sitting at the table, her first thought was "he didn't have a beard in his pictures" and her second thought was "omg he looks like Chris Evans!". Derek's first thought? "finally, I'm getting the guac". Once the guac was ordered, and Haleigh explained her tardiness, they both agreed that their first drink of the evening absolutely had to be the hazy IPA rightfully named the “Parking Ticket”. What started with a shared beer and a train delay quickly turned into something more. Derek proposed to Haleigh at the Biltmore Estate on June 30th, 2024!

Mackenzie is Haleigh's older sister and a proud mother of 3 to Haleigh's nephews! They love spending time together with the boys and having a lot of laughs (mainly from Mackenzie's dad jokes).

Haleigh and Mariana met through their sorority at HPU. They lived together the last two years of school and became best friends. Mariana has turned NYC into Haleigh's favorite city to visit! You may catch them harmonizing on a song from Hamilton.

Mariana Pereira

Erin was one of the first people that Haleigh met during freshman year of college at HPU. They have had so many laughs and adventures together over the years. Haleigh's favorite thing is Erin's version of the "Hit the Quan" dance.

Adam is Haleigh's longest friend from growing up in Mooresville. They helped each other get through high school and then again in nursing school together. They love eating sushi and judging scary movies for not being scary enough.

Meredith is Haleigh's future sister-in-law but so much more! As soon as they met they hit it off instantly and became best friends. Derek and Ryan don't stand a chance when these two link up.

At first, Haleigh knew Brittany as the girl who sat behind her in nursing school and always dressed nice, even for 9 AM class. Later on, Brittany and Haleigh became good friends and moved to Raleigh. After years of being friends with Brittany, Haleigh has finally learned you can't wear t-shirts and shorts every day! They bond over books, rooftop drinks, and being cat moms.

Anne and Haleigh randomly decided to live together through a roommate facebook group when they moved to Raleigh in 2020. As it turns out, Anne was a nurse too and also went to UNC! Haleigh and Anne quickly bonded over the scary first year of nursing and their new fun home of Raleigh.

Emily was Haleigh's roommate in nursing school. They shared many late nights studying together (and also making countless TikToks). Emily and Haleigh love doing hot yoga and talking about how much they hated the ending of Game of Thrones! 

Emily Lipinski

Ryan is Derek's younger brother and very first friend. They grew up doing everything together, and not much has changed. Now both are living in Raleigh, where they spend much of their free time with their fiancees (who are now best friends themselves) and playing golf. Derek may owe Ryan a few $$ from those rounds. 

Ryan Bingham

Kishore was one of Derek's first friends from Kernodle Middle School. They remained friends throughout Grimsley High where they did the IB Program together and ran on the track team. Kishore had promised Derek that one day he would take him to his hometown Chennai, India, which they finally got to do 10 years later in 2023. 

Kishore Maravarman 

Ben and Derek hit it off their sophomore year at Grimsley High. Ben had a license before most other students, so freedom came early for these two. Throughout the years, Ben hosted Derek, Kishore, Luke and others each summer in Asheville, where his mom had a place. The trip was such a hit, the gang kept going to Asheville every summer for ten years straight!

Luke and Derek's friendship began in highschool and grew particularly in their AP Gov class where "Crown's Glowin" was born into existence. Luke and Derek ran track together but really only ran "together" when Luke was injured. Derek had the honor to stand by Luke's side in his wedding in June of 2021. 

Luke Sumerford

Harrison and Derek became friends in high school, where they were both in the IB Program and track team. But they were more focused in goofing off than running track. Now living in Manhattan, Harrison is a great host and guide around the city, especially if you're into Das Boot. 

Harrison McClain-Rubin

Derek met Jordan through their fraternity at NC State. They became roommates after school and eventually Jordan rightfully earned the title "Sensai" for his efforts on and off the pong table with a record of 100-0. Derek got to stand by Jordan's side as a Groomsman in his wedding in September of 2024.

Jordan Ferrell

Derek and Nick's friendship started a bit tumultuously, when in middle school Derek refused to lend this stranger kid Nick his skateboard. The two didn't meet again until they joined the same fraternity in college and later became roommates. Today, Derek and Nick regularly compete as partners in their golf matches to embarrass Jordan and Vansant. 

Nicholas Efird 

Ryan and Derek started their friendship in college, where they were both in the same fraternity and involved in a lot of sports. Their friendship grew more specifically during their 2016 spring break trip to Daytona Beach during Biker Week. Years later, Ryan and Derek love to play golf together and compete for third place against Jordan and Nick.
