Back when Haley and I were in college, our roommates met each other on a plane. They ended up planning a date for the two of them but eventually decided to make it a double date. My roommate told me about this and asked if I would go with him. I said "Sure, but I'm not gonna date her or anything". I was wrong.
The picnic that Haley had prepared for us was phenomenal. We all enjoyed good food, fun conversation, tossed around a football, and had the most wholesome date I had ever been on. Following this wholesome date was winter break. My roommate and I no longer lived together and I didn't see Haley for a while.
When the Military Ball approached I decided to ask Haley to be my date. On the drive home the song "Fraulein" came up on the playlist we were listening to. This became the first time Haley and I sang together.
Haley was also my date to Army Dining Out that year (another formal military occasion) but it was only at the end of the semester, the worst time possible to ask someone out, that I officially asked Haley on a regular date. We saw each other several times that summer and continued to date throughout the fall and spring semesters, building the strong foundation that our relationship stands on.
Then almost a year later on a sunny day in April , I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me!
