There are so many fun activities to enjoy in and around San Diego, including many free attractions (e.g., beaches, parks, hiking trails). Below are a few popular spots, but definitely look into additional sights or reach out to us for recommendations.

Beach Day!

San Diego is the home to many beautiful beaches! There are many to choose from including, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Mission Bay, Ocean Beach, Coronado and La Jolla. You can also rent bikes in most of these areas and ride around the town.

Old Town San Diego

Old Town San Diego is one of San Diego’s most popular destinations. Explore streets filled with the historic culture of the many traditions left behind for free. This historic area includes three major parks and sits next to the State Park with 32 historic sites, shops and the Presidio, the site of the first mission.

San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park, minutes from downtown San Diego. The San Diego Zoo houses over 12,000 animals of more than 680 species and subspecies on 100 acres of Balboa Park. The zoo is the most visited in the United States. Travelers have cited it as one of the best zoos in the world.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

5500 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido, California 92027-7017

If you want more of the San Diego Zoo, head about 35 miles north to its Safari Park in Escondido. Here, you can view some of Africa's most beloved animals – including lions, elephants and cheetahs – roaming free (well, relatively).

USS Midway Museum

The USS Midway is the longest-serving American aircraft carrier of the 20th century. This historical relic offers patrons the opportunity to explore approximately 60 different exhibits and more than 30 restored aircraft. During the self-guided audio tour, you'll see the crew's sleeping quarters, the engine room and the primary flight control room, among other areas of the 4-acre flight deck. There are also flight simulators, a cafe and a gift shop.

Balboa Park

Located in downtown San Diego (about 1 ½ miles north of the city center), Balboa Park is a great place for a stroll, a bike ride or a picnic. The park itself is free and also has free parking. Various museums are located in the park that you can pay to enter.

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

This is a beautiful spot if you enjoy getting outdoors and hiking. It is a bit of a drive from central San Diego and parking is limited.

Little Italy

India St, San Diego, CA 92101, USA

Little Italy is a lively neighborhood filled with patio cafe's, restaurants, pubs, galleries, shops, and hotels. They host a farmer's market every Saturday. Parking in this area and throughout downtown is limited. Sometimes using uber/lyft in this area is more stress-free.
