I was on my way to Fairbury to be in Paige and Freddie Arnold's wedding and little did I know that I would meet my future hubby there. I remember being really nervous because I didn't know anyone besides the bride at this wedding. I ran into a few of my sorority sisters at the reception and we decided to go up to the bar for some drinks. When we were at the bar I saw Brady who I had met in college and I said hey and then I look over and Chris was standing with Brady at the bar. I then said who are you and the rest was history. Chris and I stood at the bar talking for a long time and eventually exchanged numbers. From that day on we started talking and texting all day long! He would come and see me on the weekends in Lincoln and eventually asked me out the day before his birthday. He likes to say he did that so he can remember our anniversary! :)
Chris kept telling me the week of the proposal to go and get my nails done because my biggest thing was that I had to have my nails done before I got engaged which should've been my first clue that something was going to happen. Chris was determined to keep it a complete surprise for me and Chris did a great job at that. It was my last week of school and not only was Chris planning a proposal, but Chris and I also bought our first house that week too! Chris knew that I was very busy with school ending and the ideas for the new house running through my mind, that I would have no idea what Chris was planning. Chris was headed to Palmyra to help my dad put flags up for Memorial Day. When Chris left I told him that my mom and I would be down later to help. Chris then commented on what I was wearing and told me that I might want to wear something different. This should have been another clue something was going to happen because he never comments on what I'm wearing. Chris headed to Palmyra and my mom and I did soon after. When my mom and I got to the cemetery, we started helping the guys finish putting up flags. The flags were all up when my mom said we needed to go and put a flag up at my Grandpa's grave. I could tell my dad and Chris were getting really antsy about leaving the cemetery, but I had no idea why. We all headed down to the grave and put the flag up and then headed back to our cars when my mom suggested that we go to the Palmyra Bar for dinner. That's when Chris looked at me and said there was one more thing he needed to ask me. I told him, What, I just really want a beer! Chris then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I of course started crying and then said YES FINALLY!!!! I was completely shocked! He always told me that it was going to happen before the school year ended and with the next day being the last day of school, I was sure it wasn't going to happen! I was completely surprised! Little did I know that Chris and my dad had been planning this the whole time!
