Our Wedding

Haley and Codey met through the Marching Royal Dukes in their last year of college, while Haley was on the media team and Codey was a drum major. After bonding over a shared appreciation for children's media and dry senses of humor, the two decided to make it official in November 2019. As any astute reader may piece together, they started their relationship only a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic ground the world to a stop. Maintaining a relationship during this time was challenging, especially when jobs took Haley and Codey to different corners of Virginia, forcing them to endure the trials of a long-distance relationship. However, they both knew that the struggles were worth it in the end. A couple years into their relationship, Haley decided to go back to JMU for a master's degree, and Codey landed a teaching job in Charlottesville, so the two were able to move in together. After lucking out and finding a lovely apartment, they (and Haley's cat, Holly) were able to start a new routine. Haley was firm in her conviction that she did not want to get married until after she had finished her education, and Codey was ever-patient while she pursued another degree. It was only after the graduation ceremony when he said, "Do you want to start looking at rings?" Haley and Codey later took a trip to Baltimore, MD to celebrate their fifth anniversary. Haley wanted to go to the aquarium and Codey was excited to try some seafood that's not as easy to come by in Waynesboro. After a charming (and cold) day, Codey proposed in their hotel suite before they went to dinner. They celebrated at a ramen shop next door to the hotel and proceeded to share the good news with friends and family.

"What's up chat, it's ya boy. I met Haley when she was an actual infant—there's a good story in my family that I thought Salmonella or Pumpkin Pie would be good names for her, but I'm glad they settled on something more reasonable (Pumpkin Pie Paterson would be an interesting alliteration, though...).

I've enjoyed sharing a lot of hobbies with Haley—tag teaming Pokémon releases is a favored memory of mine, as is that one time we were playing Path of Radiance and the Black Knight jumped us in that "safe" alleyway. She's also the reason my version of Waterdeep has feral street horses, and I tell just about every new TTRPG friend I make about her character(s).

I'm really lucky to have such a cool sister. I'm so proud of her drive and passion, and she often inspires me to keep going—with crafts (crochet assistance was much appreciated!), with personal goals, and also to get a full body velociraptor costume for light bullying purposes.

Getting to know Codey has been great, and I can see how well he and Haley fit together. I'm so excited to get to know him more, and to see how they end up building their life together (hopefully I can steal a few recipes!)."

"Hi! I'm Iliana, and Haley and I went to grad school together. We first met during the 'Welcome to Grad School, Here's a Baked Potato Bar' our department held, but we spent most of our time in the windowless grad suite down the hall. Even though that room was steeped in academic anxiety, I would always look forward to seeing Haley there between classes and getting to talk about nerd stuff or family stuff or complain about institutions of some sort. I'm so, so grateful to have a friend like her that I can always joke with and learn from, and I'm so excited to celebrate her and Codey's next step together."

"Haley and I met on July 15, 2020 at 6:31 pm. Why so exact? That's the timestamp Tumblr says our first message was on. Haley randomly posted in the D&D tag hoping to find a new game to join, and I happened to find it by chance. I don't believe anyone had responded, but I reached out and said we had a game going and we'd be more than happy to add her! She graciously accepted, and the rest is history. I've had the honor of being her mentor, her childhood villain, her murderer (once!), and lots of various pets, but the greatest honor has been being her close friend. From strangers on the internet to being part of her wedding party, I am so proud of the journey she's been on, and I can't wait to see what's beyond the horizon for her."

Starting with finding out another girl was joining my D&D group to being my first friend in Virginia, and now as her bridesmaid. "If you ask Codey or me how long we've known each other, the typical response we give is, 'too long.' He and I actually first met in kindergarten and we have been best friends ever since. From the early days of elementary school four square and the 'huts' to middle school lunches full of nerdy debates to high school marching band trips and now summer cookouts, we have stayed close through each new chapter of life. This kind of lifelong connection is rare in this world and I am so glad I have been able to keep calling him my best friend. I couldn't be happier for him and Haley and am greatly looking forward to celebrating them and their life together."

T.J. first met Codey during their freshman year at college. The two became quick friends when they discovered they both spent too much time watching the same internet personalities throughout middle and high school. This should have been a warning that both of their senses of humor have been tainted and are too niche for anyone else to understand. The evidence for this can be seen in their once hit and definitely not canceled podcast. Codey and T.J. have been through a lot together, whether it's traveling for band or their nerdy interests, rooming together during a global pandemic, growing into the educators they are today, and generally helping each other continue to grow through life. T.J. is thankful to have Codey as one of his closest friends and is happy to continue to have fun with Codey during D&D sessions and any game that takes over their lives as they continue to grow!

Hello! A few things to note as our wedding approaches: The actual address for the venue is 416 W Main Street, Waynesboro, VA, 22980. The wrong address was put on the invitation on accident, as there are two entrances to the venue. The entrance that you will want to use is directly next to Sam's Hot Dogs. For parking, there should be street parking, but if there isn't, there are a few big parking lots near the venue. These are circled in red on the attached image. If you end up parking in a farther away lot and need someone to pick you up and drop you off at the venue, please let us know and we will send someone to come get you. The venue itself is an art gallery, so there will be art hanging on the walls. Please be careful not to damage it. If you have any other questions, please reach out to Haley or Codey.
