Haley and Jack’s love story starts where most of the great love stories of our time begin…in the hallway of a law office, under the fluorescent lights (and yes, they’ve told H.R.). As her best friend, I knew Haley had a type. I just had no idea that type was co-worker. They say every good and lasting relationship begins with a friendship, and that’s just what these two morons pretended to be, for far too long. Haley is one of those strange girls who actually likes sports and doesn’t just pretend to like sports to impress a guy. Imagine my surprise when she starts to play the field, next to the field. I should have known something was up when she started accessorizing for the “gamecocks” every weekend. Jack and Haley went on approximately ninety-four dates, without acknowledging that they were dating. Meanwhile, I had already informed my mom and grandmother that Haley was going to marry Jack. It was very annoying to try and be patient while they picked up on what everyone around them already knew. Haley and Jack were going to the Junior League’s Holiday Ball, a black-tie charity event….as “friends.” Let’s be real….no man is putting on a cummerbund without the hopes of dating someone. I was not going because my mom was in town, but we decided to join Haley and Jack for cocktails before their “black-tie friendship event”. As I sit here typing this in a sequin cheetah blazer and headband, I need you to know that I come from a very subtle family. My mother quickly decided to ask Jack why he hadn’t kissed Haley yet within 5 minutes of entering the party. After not being able to come up with a valid reason, he laid one on her, FINALLY. If your best friend doesn’t get her first kiss from the man that would one day be her husband in front of both you and your mom, are you even best friends? The rest is history! Between thousands of billable hours and Jack managing Haley’s facilities, both at home and at work, it was easy to see these two lovebirds were meant to be. If Jack had waited one day longer to make Maeve an honest dog, I was going to ask my mom to propose to Haley on his behalf. Fortunately for everyone who will be attending their wedding, he wised up and got on one knee while both of their families were waiting to celebrate in Edisto. Please act surprised when they name their first child “Robinson Gray” because I wasn’t supposed to say anything. In all seriousness, Jack makes my best friend happier than I’ve ever seen her and I’m lucky to be on the sidelines of their love story.
