Four years ago at Purdue, Jake noticed a girl in his Econ class that he describes as "damn pretty" and "a nerd". He resolved to talk to this girl. After many failed attempts (offering her gum and losing it to her seat neighbor, standing behind her in line to talk to the prof only for her to walk out, etc), he finally introduced himself and asked her out to coffee. She said "no" and darted out of the classroom. Only to come back the following week to ask if his original offer of coffee was still on the table.

Halie had been shocked that day. Not only did people not talk to her much in her day-to-day classes. She had never expected such a handsome man to come up and ask her out for coffee. Such a shock, that it triggered her fight to flight response. She fled and then ran home to her roommate to tell her the story. Only then did she realize it was very dumb, and she should have said yes. So after a weekend of her girl friends hyping her up, she managed to see if the handsome guy in her Econ class was still interested in getting coffee.

The two spent three hours at Greyhouse Coffee getting to know each other; discussing conspiracy theories, favorite shows, and lake-effect snow. This would be the beginning of the story that would bring us all together to celebrate on Halloween night.
