Our Wedding

In the Fall of 2022, Mitchell was "teaching" a "class" called Networking 501. (The MBA students would gather for a drink and socializing on Thursday evenings). When Halle walked into Cafe Beaudelaire on Lincoln Way in Ames, IA, (late to class as usual) Mitchell greeted her with a smile and a handshake. As the evening progressed, the class made their way to Welch Ave and eventually found a dance floor. All Mitchell could do was crack terrible jokes about Canada and think to himself "wow, this girl is cool." Mitchell holds that he spoke those words exactly the next evening when discussing love lives with his friends.In the Spring of 2023, Halle and Mitchell both went on the MBA Study Tour. That year, the trip took the class the Philippines. The couple got to know each other during long van rides and late night chats. Mitchell was devastated when the group realized assigned vans were mistakenly not followed and had to switch to the other van, away from Halle. However, when Mitchell would get out of Van 1, he would sing something to himself and do a little jig, while everyone else expressed tiredness, sore back, boredom, etc. When Van 2 pulled up and most passengers were complaining, Halle would jump out and sing and dance. Mitchell was drawn to her energy and zeal for life.Back in Ames, the couple could not seem to stay apart for long. Their first official date was planned to be BBQ and the Cyclone Stampede Rodeo. However, with an hour wait, dinner become Mexican food, and a sold-out rodeo turned into an improvised toga party at Mickey's pub.Since then, it has been cooking together, board games, lake days, concerts, church dates, ski trips, coffee runs, and lots of laughter.Mitchell proposed in August 2024 following an after dinner drink at Cafe Beaudelaire. As the sun set over Lake Laverne on the Iowa State campus, and Christian Graber (the best man) tried to be inconspicuously take photos, Mitchell got down on one knee and asked Halle to marry him (she most definitely saw it coming). She said yes.

Emma and Halle can thank their moms for arranging this fast friendship! Throughout Timbits soccer, school, joyful noise, September-long bike trips, as college roomates, and adulthood abroad, the two have been busy watching each other grow. Emma is incredibly funny, freaky fast, and uber stylish. Emma lives in Iowa with her husband Josh and adorable baby boy Levi. Mitchell and Halle are looking forward to continuing making new memories with them!

Lily is the bride's youngest sister. When Halle moved to Iowa for school Lily was only 11 years old! Now, a ... number of years later she is starting her second year at Dordt (Sioux Center, Iowa) and Halle is beyond excited to see her for regular nail appointments and to try new GF food finds together (celiac solidarity!)

Grace is the bride's middle sister by two years. The age gap and meant that the two grew up treating life a little bit like a competition sometimes. As adults they push each other a little differently and cheer each other on just a little bit more. Halle has fond memories with Grace road tripping to Arizona, hiking in Colorado and getting extremely sunburnt in South Carolina.

Halle met Julia move in weekend freshman year. They spent the whole year in one another's rooms before becoming roommates for the rest of college and an additional year in Ankeny. Julia has done her best to train Halle to be a good roommate to Mitchell! The two enjoy a good margarita and look forward to tackling their first years of marriage together (Julia got married to her fiance Justin this June, wish her congrats!)

Christian & Mitchell met on the Spirit Squad at Iowa State. Christian was a cheerleader and Mitchell was Cy, the mascot. After road games, bowl games, and hanging out with friends, the two graduated and have been pushing each other to be the best they can. They have both completed Ironman triathlons, gotten engaged, and have been in a Bible study group with Lance (absentee groomsman) and Logan (former cheerleader) for a year and a half.

Emily met Mitchell on November 24, 1997. Mitchell has been trying to outdo her ever since. From basketball to calculus and from hurdles to loving others, Emily always sets the highest of standards, and Mitchell is always striving to match her success. Mitchell could not ask for a better role model. 
To an outsider, it may appear at times that Emily and Mitchell have their own language. This is because they have not seen Pirates of the Caribbean or School of Rock enough times.

Growing up Mitchell's younger cousin was not easy. Broken bones from Mitchell's reckless ideas were not infrequent. With no brothers to be had, the two have served that role for each other.  They inspire each other and share wisdom and motivation. Triathlons, golf, and talking investments are their favorite past times.

Isaiah Nanninga

Lance & Mitchell met in the MBA program at Iowa State. Networking 501, Euchre nights, late nights on Welch, concerts, listening to MGK, and long talks about sports, finance, and being better men, led to friendship. After graduation, they traveled for 3 weeks to Ireland, Amsterdam, and Italy. They have been roommates ever since. 
Lance's regrettable absence is due to his sister's wedding being the same day.

Halles mom has blessed her with a love for games! Whether it's solitaire, a quick game of sudoku, or a long game of Canasta, Charlene WILL be playing. Although she avoids the game Risk at all costs... Charlene is a go-getter. When we were young, she kept incredibly busy organizing church trips, pursuing a photography career and making sure all 4 of us made it to where we needed to be. Now that everyone can drive themselves around, and for the most part do their own laundry (Isaiah might be the occasional exception), Charlene can be found snuggling with Honey (our crazy dog!) and exploring a new career path in the non-profit realm.

Quentin often laments Halles lack of hand eye coordination, but he loves her anyways! Growing up Halle enjoyed staying up late and playing video games with Quentin after all of the other kids went to bed. (Neither Halle nor Quentin are very good at going to bed in the right place, or at the right time). In his free time, he loves to play baseball and hockey. In his busy time, Quentin works for Supreme/Leder Investments and to be honest we are not always super sure what he does, although we know he does a good job! ... growing up the kids had considered he might be a secret agent or a spy.

Professional bringer of whatever Mitchell forgot for whichever sport he was playing that day. Shannon is an abstractor (vital in the state of Iowa where we do not rely on title insurance) and business woman, not to mention the mom all Mitchell's friends feared the most (but I think secretly they wanted her to be their mom). These days, she goes by Gammy and loves making Papa jealous when she can get a grandchild to calm down.

Former farmer (corn, soybeans, & hogs) and former Audubon county supervisor. Today, Todd has a tree pulling business clearing terraces and fence lines. Mitchell grew up hearing nuggets of wisdom such as, "don't be stupid" and "ask your mother." Mitchell did not always comply. Now better known as Papa, he loves spending time with his grandkids and reminding them how much he loves them.

Daughter of Mitchell's sister Nicole & husband Shea. Goddaughter to Mitchell. Greta is 7 and loves dance & K-Pop Demon Hunters! She also loves saying no when Uncle Mitchell tries to coax her into doing something a little dangerous. She often refers to Halle as "bestie." You will likely see Greta doing the splits and cartwheels during the reception.

Daughter of Mitchell's sister Josie & husband Steve. Savannah is 1 1/2 and loves flopping on soft furniture and Bop It! An organized child, we hope she is okay littering the aisle with flower petals without putting them away immediately after.

Son of Nicole and Shea. Owen is 5 and loves Paw Patrol and dinosaurs! He is very close to being able to beat Uncle Mitchell at wrestling. Current odds are -480 for whether there is a scrape/bruise on his head when bearing the rings.
