What is the Summer Solstice significance?
The Summer Solstice celebrates the abundance of the earth, at a time when nature is ripe, flourishing with offerings of life. It’s a time to express gratitude for the life-giving sustenance the sun provides and all it manifests.
Nature offers a wonderful reflection on our lives if only we learn to tune into its rhythms. The summer solstice is a time to experience the fullness of our expressive and expansive selves, to reach our full potential as we open up to unbridled creative flow, and to take outward action toward manifesting our dreams. Celebrate all of your achievements, honor who you are right now, and take stock of who you are becoming.
Ways to celebrate the Summer Solstice
1. Watch the sun rise and set:
Watching the sun both rise and set on the longest day of the year is an excellent opportunity to pay your respects to the sun and acknowledge its life-giving power as it both arrives and departs. Get up early and greet the sunrise. Sip coffee and say hi to the sun OR practice some yoga sun salutations. Breathe in the sunshine. In the evening wrap in a blanket and sit in nature as you watch the sun go down.
2. Create a mandala:
They are a wonderful way of expressing gratitude for the bounty of life and honoring the LIGHT of the Sun and the LIGHT within you. Mandalas are particularly powerful because the circle symbolism represents eternity, the ever-spinning wheel of the year, and wholeness.
3. Prayer Tree:
Write a prayer or wish on ribbons, known as ”clooties,” and recite the prayer in my mind and visualize it being released into the universe as you tie the ribbon to the branch.
3. Bath in the Sunshine:
The Summer Solstice is a time for renewal, rebirth, and self-love. It’s a time to honor your body and recognize that it is beautiful and worthy of your respect and care. To honor this momentous occasion, take time to honor yourself by bathing in the light of the sun!
4. Set Intentions:
Summer Solstice is a time of growth and light, so it’s a great time to charge up your intentions for the season.
First, do a goal review. What are the things that you want to bring into your life? What habits do you want to change? What should you stop doing? Then write down your intentions or affirmations: You can make them as long or as short as you like; they can be as specific or general as you need them. They can be goals, plans, aspirations—whatever works for you! Just make sure they’re something that matters to you.
5. Have a fire:
Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year and is a perfect time to celebrate. One of the main rituals for summer solstice is, of course, a bonfire. Take time to reflect upon your inner LIGHT, and let the flame ‘bring to light’ any areas of your consciousness that need addressing. Utilise fire’s wonderfully illuminating properties to help you truly know yourself.
