It all began on April 26th of 2021. Tanner saw me a few times from a distance at Wabash Friends Church. He reached out to me through Instagram. Our first date or “get together” was when I came up to Wabash. He picked me up from my grandparents house and took me out for lunch at Mi Pueblo. We both learned very quickly that we enjoy being in nature and loving God. Tanner took me to Hathaway Nature Preserve on May 28th of 2021 and (under a large oak tree) asked me to be his girlfriend. Fast forward to May 5th, 2024, Tanner and I found ourselves under the exact same tree. Although, this time something was off. There was a picnic basket and lots of pictures hanging from the tree. Tanner said that he set this up for our anniversary. Upon reaching the tree, Tanner wanted me to pick my favorite selfie from the past three years. I glanced at all the pictures and pointed at one. Tanner said, "that’s a good memory, I like this one.” I turned around to see which image he was pointing at, and was left speechless. There, at the base of the tree, was Tanner on one knee. Without skipping a beat he said, “Hallie Schuler, will you join me in making more memories as my wife?”
