FAQ

1. How do I get from Lisbon to the venue?

Specifically to get from Lisbon airport to Ericeira, our recommended way is either renting a car or taking a rideshare app like Uber, Bolt or Freenow (~30mins, ~$30 for rideshare). If you're traveling solo, use our Facebook group to coordinate ridesharing. There's no direct train, and we don't advise it, but if you want to take public transit, take the metro from the airport (red line) to Campo Grande and then take the Mafrense bus to Ericeira (~2 hours, $10 euro pp)

And how do I get around in general?

a. Renting a car in Portugal is easy and they generally follow the same rules of the road as the US. A lot of cars are stick shift, so try and reserve early and you may pay slightly more for automatic.

b. For shorter rides, Uber, Bolt, and Freenow can help you get around. These services are generally cheaper in Portugal than in the US.

c. If you want to get around to other main cities before/after the wedding to check them out, there are trains from Lisbon Central Station and they run well to other major cities

2. Where should I stay?

A great spot to stay near the venue is in the town of Ericeira. It is walkable, has plenty of cute shops, and lovely beaches. From there it is about a 10 min drive (there are three rideshare apps: Uber, Bolt, and Freenow) to the venue. If you find a spot outside of Ericeira, but nearby, that's great. The whole area is very safe and nice.

3. What should I pack?

The weather is very Northern California/New England summer weather - in that it can be hot during the day, but quickly cools down at night. We would recommend bringing layers for any of the events to be prepared. There are also beaches nearby so bring a swimsuit. And if you're spending any time in Lisbon or other cities, bring sneakers since it can be hilly and a lot of walking.

4. I'm staying longer and am looking for something to do before/after the wedding. Any recommendations?

5. Can I use my credit card in Portugal? Do they take USD?

Many places in the main cities take credit cards in Portugal, but we would highly recommend getting some Euros in cash as some places do not except cards, especially if you're going outside of the main cities. For getting Euros in cash, you can do so at your home country bank before traveling or in Portugal using a Multibanco ATM (Note: say "No" to the first screen with all of the conversion fees. The Multibanco ATM will then go to a second screen with a fee around $3.50. Say yes to this option. You should be able to withdraw up to $200 euro at a time).
