Alec had just transferred to the night shift at the ICU when fate smiled upon him. After a long shift of wrestling confused patients, bed pans, and really just trying to keep everyone alive, he was ready to leave. He waited impatiently to give shift report to the oncoming day nurse when he first saw her. His terrible night was immediately forgotten as he took in the vision standing before him: Her dazzling eyes, shining brightly despite the hour. Her laugh, such a joy to hear above the cacophony of ventilator alarms. Her smile, a beacon of hope that there was life after the time-clock. Her conversation filled with dazzling wit, tireless compassion, and super duper impressive knowledge was unparalleled. Not to mention the breathtaking way her unwashed hair was swept into a ponytail and topped with an old headband that brought out the circles under her eyes and the coffee stain already on her scrubs.

For him it was love at first sight. (To Hannah's memory)

For her she figured if he thought she looked okay in scrubs and no makeup they would probably get along fine.

For both (two years later) they can't wait to marry their best friend.
