Our Story

Breakfast at Chilis

Hello, it's Ethan. This is our (highly abridged) story. I don’t remember everything but here are some moments that make me smile.

Fall 2015: I first met Han in the library at Notre Dame. And I remember two things. First, Han’s laptop was broken (common for Han) so she was lugging around this grey monstrosity from the early 2000s. Second, it was raining, so I lent Han my rain jacket for our walk from the library to North Dining Hall. Many years later, I still have that rain jacket—it means the world to me because it reminds me of that moment. I handed it to Han right before I proposed to her (see photo).

A romance begins: Early in our courtship I asked Han to hold my banana as we walked out of the dining hall. She misheard me and held my hand instead. She was embarrassed; I was elated. To this day, every time I peel a banana it makes me smile. Let it be known, Hannah made the first move: I guess she just found me very ap-peeling! For the next three years we ate lunch together almost every day at North Dining Hall. Han would eat smelly-chicken and then knock my hat off as we walked to class. In the evenings we headed off-campus for dinner, where we discovered our one true love—Chili’s Skillet Queso.

Long time, long distance: After graduation, Han moved to New Orleans for Medical School, and I moved to Chicago for work. Six years, seven moves, and eight(y) skillet quesos later, here we are. About to get married. Amen.

We sincerely hope that you will join us. And, if you do, be sure to bring a rain jacket and banana—you never know whom you might meet.
