His Side: Love Found in an Unexpected Place and Time

Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV): “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” I have always believed that God works in favor of those who put Him first in all things, and that even in our imperfections, He blesses us far beyond what we expect. From our very first “hello” to the daily conversations we now share, a long-distance relationship was never part of the way I imagined meeting the person meant for me. And even now, I find it remarkable that our story began through something as simple as a video game. Yet I can confidently say that God, in His wisdom, can work in the most unexpected ways—yes, even through a video game. I had never been in a rush to find a relationship. My life revolved around work, family, church, and my pastimes. But I remember one night very clearly: I was alone in prayer, and I brought that request before God. I said, “Lord, I feel ready. If You have the right one for me, I will wait and watch for Your hand in this. I am not seeking someone to love only for a moment and then part ways. If it is Your will, send me the woman I can one day call my wife.” I prayed those words without expecting much more. I did not go out often and I had never really dated, but as we all know, God works in mysterious ways—and He certainly did in my life. When we met online, I initially saw her as just another stranger I might speak to briefly. But she was different. From exchanging our first names to talking a little more each day, a genuine friendship formed. I learned that she had traveled and lived abroad in Japan, and she learned that Texas was far more than the desert and tumbleweeds she imagined. Most importantly, we discovered that we shared the same faith. And slowly, I found myself growing more and more interested in this amazing woman. As time went on and we prepared to meet in person, I remember stepping off the airplane into the cold Seattle air. There she stood, smiling brightly. She ran toward me and gave me a big hug that caught me by surprise but in that moment, every bit of nervousness disappeared. From then on, I learned to cherish and love her for exactly who she is: kind, caring, thoughtful, compassionate, and loving. She is a woman who places God first and is unafraid to express her faith. As Proverbs 18:22 says, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.” I truly found a good thing in her, and God, in His grace, granted me the favor of calling her my wife. God heard my prayer that night, and He answered it in a place and time I never could have imagined. We thank you sincerely for choosing to share this special moment with us. Your presence means more than we can express, and we look forward to celebrating together. May God bless each and every one of you as we create this beautiful memory.

Since the very first days of Disney, every girl has dreamed of meeting her "knight in shining armor," yet so few report actually finding theirs. Clearly, girls aren't playing enough video games.

Her Side: Knight in Pixel Armor

I met mine on a sunny March day in 2023, huddled up in a blanket and sipping at my second coffee for the morning. Yes, we are both aware I have a serious coffee problem. Putting that aside until Aron decides I need therapy, this coffee gave me just the wakeup I needed to face my most daunting challenge yet: trying to get a shiny pixelated dragon to ride with my friends in the online cooperative game, Final Fantasy XIV. Unfortunately, several of our group members were absent that day, leading to us recruiting other players we did not know to join us. Low and behold who should show up with brave ambitions of helping us but valiant Aron, a literal knight in shining armor.

Yes, friends, my man is a fabled Paladin knight main. I know. As the fight went on, not only did he have seemingly boundless patience (a trait his welding students and I are incredibly thankful for), but he also had a fantastic sense of humor. Thanks to both, we were able to laugh our way through the fight, and subsequently adopt him into the group without even asking if he wanted to be there. I'm assuming he did because he never left. I was perhaps a little excited when he offered to help me when I needed after that. Over the course of the next few weeks and months we spent more and more time together, and I was perhaps (cough) developing a crush on this charming man with his quiet confidence, giving heart and very attractive voice. It wasn’t too long before we exchanged our first names rather than our character names. When he heard mine he said, “Hannah? Like from the Bible?” This of course, lead to a conversation about our shared faith and the realization that….Oh. He’s dateable.

Although the day didn't seem out of the ordinary, the timing was no coincidence. In those months leading up to my meeting with Aron, I finally worked up the courage to ask God for “the Big One.” I knew I wanted to heal and I knew I specifically wanted a partner who would help bring me closer to God, and someone who would walk through this journey of life with a quiet confidence and steady presence. Boy, does God listen when we’re specific. My goodness.Not three months later, my knight had come. Yes, I joke about knights in shining armor because of how we met, but the reality is Aron encompasses so much of what a true knight stands for. He is steadfast and just, humble and chivalrous, courageous and upright. He is, to me, a man who epitomizes putting on the Armor of God daily (Ephesians 10:6-18). I can’t thank him enough for all the ways he’s helped me heal and grow; for his loyalty and dedication to doing the right thing; and for not only helping me find my next steps forward in life, but for helping to pave the way for them, as well. He is a man of honor, and I am so blessed to be his wife soon. Thank you so much for sharing this journey and celebrating our marriage with us. We thank God for each and every one of you, and we are honored to spend this day with you.

Our wedding will probably be much earlier and shorter than a typical wedding due to travel constraints. We apologize to the all-day party enjoyers among us, but please reassure your introverted friends and family members that they won't be suffering too long at this one. If you like dressing for the occasion, our wedding colors are dark blue, white, and silver. But please do not feel pressured to wear any of these colors! Should you prefer to show up in hot pink we will not be offended--please wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing to a wedding. Our reception will offer a brunch-style menu with Mexican influences inspired by the cultural blending of our union. If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know when you RSVP so we can be sure to accommodate you! PLEASE ALSO BE SURE TO 'ADD GUEST' FOR EACH PARTY MEMBER WHEN RSVPING!
