Location

We'll be hosting our wedding in our own local community on the beautiful South Shore of Nova Scotia. We hope that you'll love it here as much as we do! New Germany is a small, rural village. We are surrounded by lakes, woods, and farms. It's 15 minutes from the larger town of Bridgewater, and 30 minutes from the coastal towns of Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. Halifax is just over an hour away.

How to get here

If you're arriving by airplane, you should fly into the Halifax Stanfield International Airport. The airport is located about 40 minutes outside of the city of Halifax. From Halifax, it is approximately a one hour drive. Take the Highway 103 towards the South Shore. Take Exit 11 for Mahone Bay or Lunenburg, or Exit 12 for Bridgewater or New Germany. Safe travels!

Transportation 

The South Shore is a rural area. If you are visiting from out of town, it will be best to bring (or rent) your own private vehicle. It is possible to take the <a href="https://maritimebus.com/en/plan-your-trip/planning-schedules" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Maritime Bus</a> from Halifax to any of the towns in the region, but keep in mind that without a vehicle, it will be very difficult to get around once arriving on the South Shore. Locally, there is limited public transit service within the town of Bridgewater, as well as <a href="https://www.facebook.com/southshoretaxi/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">South Shore Taxi</a> services. We encourage you to explore transportation options, and plan in advance!

There are many lovely places to stay on the South Shore. Right around the corner from our house! 3+ different cottages available. 2. <a href="https://saltyrose.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Salty Rose Cottages</a> - Rose Bay (near Lunenburg)Beautiful seaside cottages with full kitchens. 30+ minutes from our house, but close to the much-loved town of Lunenburg. 6 different cottages available. 3. <a href="https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/hotels-in-bridgewater/best-western-plus-bridgewater-hotel-convention-centre/propertyCode.65015.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Best Western Plus Hotel</a> - BridgewaterEveryone's favourite hotel in our area! Locals around here love the restaurant. 10 minutes from our house, in a commercial area with basic stores &amp; restaurants nearby. 4. <a href="https://kitchinn.com/kitchinn/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Kitch'Inn</a> and the <a href="https://kitchinn.com/mahone-bay-bb/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mahone Bay B&amp;B</a> - Mahone BayThis local company offers many unique accommodation options in the seaside town of Mahone Bay. They have a little boutique hotel (the Kitch'Inn) as well as a classic bed and breakfast (Mahone Bay B&amp;B). Each cabin sleeps 2 guests, and there are 8 available in total. The cabins have their own washrooms and small kitchenettes.

November will be quiet &amp; peaceful around here. Make the most of your time on the South Shore by enjoying the natural beauty &amp; friendly towns that our community has to offer! If you're visiting for a few days from out of town, here are some of our favourite spots that you should take the time to check out:

Outdoors There isn't a whole lot to do around here... but there is plenty of nature to enjoy! - Kejimkujik National Park- Kejimkujik Seaside Adjunct- River Ridge Common- Trails! There's a network of rail trails that connects all of the towns.- Beaches! Crescent Beach, Hirtle's Beach, Rissers Beach- Indian Falls, North Branch LaHave River Food Here are some places to eat that the locals love. - Famous Town Pie Shop, Mahone Bay- Betty's at the KitchInn, Mahone Bay- Rebecca's Restaurant, Mahone Bay- The Barn Coffee, Bridgewater and Mahone Bay- Fancy Pants Cafe, Bridgewater- Rascal's Burritos, Bridgewater- Hummingbird Cafe, New Germany- The Knot Pub, Lunenburg- Salt Shaker Deli, Lunenburg- LaHave Bakery, LaHave
