We highly recommend having access to a car to get around while you are here. While beautiful, the Catskills are rural and access to ride services or cabs is scarce and not reliable. Many of you will be within driving distance of the area, but if you will be flying or taking the train it is best for a member of your group to rent a car, or plan to carpool with other guests.
If this is a challenge for you please let us know and we will work to find a carpool or some form of transportation to help you out!
If you are flying in, you might consider flying to a regional airport which will be a shorter drive to the Roxbury, NY area (under 2 hours). However, you may also fly into NYC if you would like to add a visit to the Big Apple to your trip. New York City airports will also have more flight options. It is about a 3 hour drive to Roxbury from the city. If you prefer to avoid traffic when leaving NYC, you also have the option to take a train further away from the city before renting a car (look below for train options).
John F Kennedy Airport (JFK)
LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
Each of these airports offers connections to the public transport system within NYC or a cab ride to the rest of the city. From New York City you could rent a car, or take the train further out of the city first.
Albany International Airport (ALB)
Only an hour and a half drive from Roxbury, this is the closest airport and will probably be an easier travel experience than the crowded airports located in NYC.
Westchester County Airport (HPN)
We use this airport often and it is convenient and easy to navigate, although further from Roxbury (a 2-and-a-half-hour drive). Although a longer drive this airport still avoids NYC traffic.
New York Stewart International Airport (SWF)
Another small airport two hours drive away from Roxbury. Stewart Airport offers an express bus to Port Authority in New York City.
The following Amtrak stations are all between an hour and an hour and a half's drive from Roxbury and less than 3 hour ride from NYC. From the station you would want to either rent a car or arrange a pickup or carpool.
Poughkeepsie, Albany, Hudson, Rhinecliff
From Grand Central or Harlem in New York City it is an easy and scenic ride on the Metro-North Hudson Line to Poughkeepsie, the end of the line, which is an hour and a half from Roxbury. From there you might arrange to rent a car or carpool.
Can't 'bear' for you to leave!
