We met in the summer of 2018 at an accounting conference in Chicago. On the second day of the conference, we had assigned seats. Dexter came to our table, sat next to me, and asked me what school I was representing. I said "OSU," to which he asked if it was Ohio State or Oklahoma State. We realized that we were both Oklahoma State students who had taken the same classes but our paths had never crossed before. We had just barely missed each other throughout most of our classes. I had a boyfriend at the time of the conference and to be honest, didn't think twice about Dexter until we returned back to school that fall. He, on the other hand, immediately went home and told his friends and family he had met a girl. He knew I had a boyfriend but told himself he would ride it out and see what happens. He said "I'm a fisherman, I can be patient when I want to be." Lo and behold, he was very patient. I returned to school that fall single. Dexter and I were in almost every class together and spent a ton of time together studying. Most Fridays were spent grabbing breakfast and then studying at the library all day. He says the only reason he got an "A" in Intermediate Accounting II was because he was trying to spend time with me. Three years later, we are both pursuing our CPA. Our relationship began by us both being driven and pushing each other to succeed. I'm happy to say nothing has really changed. He makes me the best version of myself. I can't wait for a lifetime with him.
