We encourage our guests to book accommodations early since summer is tourism season here in Vacationland. If you're looking for a budget-conscious housing option, prices tend to be lower outside of Portland. Look in adjacent towns for short-term stays on Airbnb and Vrbo. You should be able to book an Uber, Lyft, or 207 Taxi (207taxi.com) to get yourself to and from the Ferry station.
What's good to do in Portland?
Portland is a food town, so whatever else you're planning...come hungry.
There's a ton of great local hiking, and Acadia National Park is a three-and-a-half-hour drive up the coast. There are lots of local beaches with Old Orchard Beach and Higgins being a couple of the more popular ones.
If you're looking for a dose of Maine kitsch you can check out the Portland Headlight. Or if sea-faring is more your scene you can book a sunset sailboat cruise.
In terms of nightlife, we recommend Arcadia if you like gaming. Or, if you're just in the mood for a drink, a walk down Wharf Street should have all the nightlife you need until 1am.
If you're looking for anything other than the above described, please do not hesitate to google your fancy.
On Friday the 19th at 9:00pm, the wedding party will be going to Bubba's Sulky Lounge for some dancing. Everyone is welcome to join us! Heads up, entry to Bubba's is a $5 cover and has a cash bar.
What's the Dress Code?
Think "backyard barbecue formal." Something that says "I'm going to a hometown hoedown" ...but with a whole lotta class. We want color, and panache, and outfits overflowing with personal style. Falling short of that, cocktail/sundresses will do the job, or a light suit depending on how you wish to express yourself. And make sure you pack a light jacket for the ferry ride.
Also worth mentioning is that the wedding venue has an outside area with frequently uneven ground. We want you to be comfortable and safe, so we recommend wearing something stable and suitable for enduring hours and hours of dancing. You have been warned. We will not be organizing hospital transportation for twisted ankles.
How do I get to Peaks Island?
A ferry runs to Peaks Island once every hour. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the island on the ferry. The 3:15pm ferry will arrive on the island at 3:45pm, which leaves plenty of time to get to the venue. The 2:15pm ferry is also good, and there are bars on the island to pass the time at. The last ferry off the island departs at 11:55. We recommend you not miss the last ferry unless you are happy to sleep outside or swim back to the mainland.
Are kids invited to the wedding?
No. We love them. We wish them well. But this will be an adult party for adults to enjoy. Thank you for understanding.
