Santos and Hannah officially met at Brevard Distance Running Camp in Brevard, North Carolina in 2017. They remained in contact by running against each other in cross country and then on the same team when they both landed at Southeast Bulloch High School. In 2021, Hannah was desperate to find someone to run the Savannah Bridge Run with her and messaged Santos. However, Santos declined due to being out of town for college. The following year Santos wanted to run the Savannah Bridge Run and remembered Hannah previously asked him so in July of 2022 Santos messaged Hannah to run the race with him. Hannah was knee deep in dental hygiene school and had not ran in months but reluctantly accepted with hopes to get back in shape before the race in December. Merely running acquaintances at this point, the two met at Mill Creek Park to go for a run. Santos quickly found Hannah was not trained but found her delightful to talk to and the runs at Mill Creek turned into weekly walks to talk to each other.
