If you want to avoid renting a car, there is a bus route that can take you from Portland Union Station to Astoria, but make sure you check the schedule because it is typically only twice a day. If you're staying in the central area of Astoria, it is very walkable.
ACCOMMODATIONS
There are a variety of accommodation options in town, with Airbnb and VRBO likely the most cost-effective. We recommend staying in the main part of town if you're able (approximately between 8th-17th streets and closer to the water) because it is very walk-able and fun to explore. I listed a couple hotels here that are closest to the venue, but there are many options with a wide range of pricing. Warrenton and Seaside are also nice and only a short drive from Astoria.
