The story of the Future Scarboroughs

Don’t we all love a good plot twist?

T or Hannah in 2019, their freshman year of college, could never have predicted their future looking like this. God was writing a beautiful love story, their love story.

It was precisely then, when they were freshman in college, that Hannah and T met. During this time they were figuring a lot of new things out, as new college students do. How does college work? What friends would they would make? What does their relationship with God look like as an adult? Yale offered many answers, but the most long-lasting ones were found in Chi Alpha. That is where they met each other and the people that would sharpen their understanding of who is God. Still, they had not figured it all out in one year. They were a lot different from each other then and different from theirselves now. Good thing T softly rejected Hannah when she confessed her crush in May of 2020.

Four years later, exponential growth had happened. They both learned a lot about managing their emotions, prioritizing what really matters, and who God is. That last one—learning about the personal God—was the site of transformation that overflew into all others. God is love, so they learned how to better love others. Truth has more power than emotions driven by fear, so their mental health improved. God is the source of every good thing, and so they grew into grateful and reverent Christians.

But this was all on the individual level…until they realized the parallels.

They sat next to each other one brunch after church and—plot twist—T realized there was a spark between them. It was the last month of T’s senior year when he lit the flame and made it official. And they clicked so well that it was like they were dating for months already. T would be staying in New Haven for another year to work with Chi Alpha—the club that had done so much for their and countless others’ faith journeys.

It was happiness and warmth and bonding and everything made sense over the next few months. Then the question of *the future* came up.

They had talked about marriage since the beginning of it all. T and Hannah did not want to date without intention, and the intention they had was to see if they would be compatible as husband and wife. They knew by November that the answer was yes. Everyone who knew both of them well answered with a resounding yes too. T and Hannah brainstormed what forever together might be like, praying many long prayers.

During that time they knew the next step of obedience was to move towards marriage together. Soon after that, God spoke into Hannah’s heart at Chi Alpha’s Fall Retreat that a year of ministry at Yale should also be a part of those next steps (paralleling T’s call to ministry). So, the vision became clear.

Hannah and T will be stepping into the sacred covenant of marriage together on July 20th, 2024. A few weeks later, they will move in and work together in New Haven serving Yale’s campus as ambassadors for Christ.

This is a God story, and we cannot wait

to celebrate Him and it with you on their wedding day!
