Our Wedding

The two of them remained friends through the rest of middle school into high school. In January 2008, at a family party, Hannah gave Christian a phone call. They talked for a moment before he passed the phone off to Rachel, his cousin. The two had never spoken but were two excited school girls talking about if Christian liked Hannah. If the answer was yes, Rachel was to say the word, "Blueberries". There was no blueberries just yet. Sometime after this party, after Hannah had probably told many people that she liked Christian, someone told him directly of the crush. That's when things changed for him. The thought of Hannah just being a friend melted away and he saw her as more than that. In February, he asked her to be his girlfriend and gave her a very sweet gift. Hannah received her first kiss from Christian after dropping her off at class. But after four weeks, something changed for Hannah. She was nervous, anxious about the pressures of being in a relationship. So she broke up with him. Which was very hard on both of them because they not only had feelings for each other but were very close friends as well. The two of them didn't speak again until 10th grade. Their friendship was somewhat the same at school and Christian even invited her to his birthday that school year. They just enjoyed each other's friendship too much to let it go. The two of them went on to date others during high school, obviously none of the working out. At the end of senior year, a tragic accident brought them together. On the way home from school, Hannah told Christian the news she had just heard only to discover she was the first to tell him. Hannah had her dad take her over to Christian's house because she could tell this news hit him hard. The two spent hours talking about this and that, about the fragility of life. Eventually, the topic of their feelings for each other came up. Hannah revealed that while she did break up with him, nothing changed about her feelings for him. Christian agreed to an extent. A month later, Christian and Hannah attended an event related to the accident. Afterwards they spent time with their friends eating, laughing, and telling stories about those they had lost. Taking her aside, Christian asked Hannah to go on a walk with him outside. They walked around the apartment complex of friend's, enjoying the warmth of a June night. Graduation was only three days away. And then just like that, after trying to find a view during this walk, Christian asked Hannah to be his girlfriend again. It was a big yes.

How We "Met" and Started Dating

In 2024, Christian and Hannah visited Japan alongside some of their favorite people (pretty much all are in the wedding party!). Little she know, Christian had his mom sew a little pocket inside his jacket to hide a ring that the couple had picked out together. This was the trip. Now Hannah didn't know that he had gone to pick up the ring. She knew that they had agreed on a design and Christian would finalize the design with our jeweler Gaspar. So the ring being with Christian on this trip didn't even cross her mind. She thought they would just make matching rings at a store in Kyoto they were already planning to go to and he'd do it with that. The trip started out fun, wandering Tokyo and enjoying the sites. One of the days, they attended Tokyo Disney Sea. Halfway through the day, Hannah looked at Rachel (the Rachel from before!) and then went to send a text in secret. "I keep playing myself the fool thinking Christian is going to propose on this trip. I'm only upsetting myself." Rachel had to then LIE to her, being in on the big secret that everyone else on the trip also knew. The latter half of the trip was spent in Kyoto. The last time the couple was in Japan, they barely saw the area so it was an exciting adventure to explore this part of the country. One of the days was planned to go see the famed Arashiyama bamboo forest and the town that it resides in. This was going to be the day. Hannah even joked to Christian as they began walking through a park within the forest, "You don't have any big questions for me, do you?" Christian did some of his best acting that day to keep her fooled. The group with them included Christian's sister Anna and her husband Chris(and baby Leonardo inside her stomach!), Tita Bess and Tito Mon, his cousins Vincent, Paul and his partner Mark, and Rachel and her husband Cliff. Chris and Anna had joined this for this block of their trip, mostly for a good trip before the baby but also to be their for the big question). Walking through the garden area, Christian searched high and low for a cherry blossom tree. Now March is usually cherry blossom season, but this year, the bloom was taking it's time. There was only a few trees around with that signature pink beauty. Every time he'd want to stop and take a picture, everyone prepared for the big moment. But it took him a few times before he found the spot. Up some stairs, a beautiful view onto the park and temple sat below them and the bamboo forest above them. It wasn't as busy as the rest of the park, though it was very busy at all at the time. There, up in that spot, a single tree sat blossomed. Hannah looked out towards the forest, commenting on how cool it was to see a regular forest and bamboo forest combine. But when she turned around to look at Christian, there he was on one knee, a red box in hand. "Will you marry me?" He could've said nothing and Hannah would've known. These two have been destined together, so it was a given. The crowd of their loved ones cheered as they snapped photos and recorded video of the moment. It was one they'll never forget. The rest of the trip was a dream from then on. ~~ And now, twelve years have gone by! Those 18 year old kids that just graduated high school are 30 year olds with jobs. We've been through so much together. Loss of loved ones, births of so many sweet babies, Hannah's many visits to the ER, the pandemic, and so much more. It's been an incredible adventure to be with your best friend every day and enjoy life together. We wouldn't have it any other way.
