Saturday, May 16 2026 @ 5:30pm Mehndi is a joyful pre-wedding celebration rooted in South Asian, Middle Eastern, and North African traditions, and especially meaningful in Pakistani culture. The word “Mehndi” means henna and refers to the natural paste used to create intricate, temporary designs on the hands, symbolizing love, blessings, protection, and new beginnings. Traditionally held before the wedding, the Mehndi is a vibrant gathering filled with music, dancing, and colorful attire. It is a time for the bride to be surrounded by family and friends as they celebrate her upcoming marriage and offer heartfelt wishes for happiness and prosperity. Henna has been used for thousands of years across cultures, and in wedding traditions, the deeper the stain is said to represent greater love and joy in the marriage. Today, Mehndi celebrations bring everyone together in a lively, colorful atmosphere where guests join in the festivities and share in the excitement. As we come together as one family, this celebration is especially meaningful to us — honoring heritage, embracing tradition, and beginning our marriage surrounded by love.

Sunday, May 17 2026 @ 5:30pm The Walima is the traditional wedding reception in Pakistani culture, held after the Nikah (marriage ceremony). It is a formal celebration that publicly announces the marriage and marks the official beginning of the couple’s life together. Traditionally hosted by the groom’s family, the Walima represents gratitude, generosity, and the welcoming of the bride into her new family. It is both a cultural and Islamic tradition, rooted in the practice of gathering loved ones to share a meal and offer blessings for the newly married couple. Our Walima will include personal vows, heartfelt speeches, and lively music as we celebrate surrounded by those who mean the most to us. In keeping with tradition, the bride will be wearing red. We kindly ask our guests to avoid wearing red for this event, as this color is reserved for the bride on this special day. We look forward to honoring this meaningful tradition while beginning our marriage with joy, community, and love.

Walima (Sunday) Timeline 

On January 3, 2026, we were blessed to have our Nikah — the Islamic marriage ceremony that spiritually and legally joined us as husband and wife. The Nikah is a sacred marriage contract performed in the presence of witnesses, where the formal proposal and acceptance are declared and prayers are offered for a life rooted in love, faith, and mutual respect. It marks the true beginning of married life. We chose to keep this moment small and intimate, surrounded by close family. While it was incredibly special, we truly missed celebrating with everyone we love. We are so excited to gather with you for the upcoming events that continue these beautiful traditions and allow us to celebrate together.

Past Nikah Event

They say love finds you when you least expect it —&amp; somehow, that’s exactly how our story began.

Our Story 

We first connected on Hinge a dating website, exchanging a few messages that felt light and easy. But before Hasan could ask Teresa out, fate had other plans — her account vanished (we still blame his lack of follow-through), and life carried them in different directions. Months passed, and after the heartbreaking loss of Teresa’s mom, the universe decided to give them another chance. Some would say Mary Ann had a grander plan for her daughter than she ever realized — one that led Hasan back into her life at just the right time.

One ordinary day, they matched again on Hinge. Teresa recognized Hasan immediately, though he didn’t quite remember her — to be fair, her profile had completely changed. With quiet determination and a little help from some adorable Pomsky puppy photos while she was visiting Long Island, Teresa caught his attention once more. This time, Hasan finally asked her out.

Their first date in Shirlington, VA felt like something out of a movie — effortless conversation, genuine laughter, and an unspoken sense that something special was beginning. Teresa was drawn to Hasan’s kind, carefree spirit — the way he made her laugh and made her feel completely safe. Hasan, in turn, was captivated by Teresa’s beautiful green eyes, her warmth, her grace, and her perfect touch of sass.

Their love continued to grow, deepening with every moment they shared. Then came their trip to Ronda, Spain — a place so breathtaking it seemed to mirror how they felt about each other. They stayed on an estate surrounded by 360° views of rolling hills and timeless beauty. It was there, on October 22, 2025, that Hasan asked Teresa to spend forever with him.

In that moment, they both knew — this was it. Their hearts had found home in each other, and there was no time to waste in beginning their forever. ❤️

Let's Talk Mehndi: What to Expect

Ceremony #1: Mithai &amp; Blessings We begin by feeding the bride and groom mithai (sweets) to symbolize a sweet start to married life. Married women in the family then place a small dot of mehndi (henna) on the bride as a blessing for happiness and prosperity. Close female relatives — especially elders like aunts, grandmothers, and sisters — may also give a small monetary gift (traditionally $2–$5), called salami. This is later donated to the mosque and represents prayers (duas), good luck, and well wishes for the bride’s new journey.

Ceremony #2: Mehndi &amp; a Little Fun The bride’s sisters, cousins, and friends place a small dot of mehndi (henna) on the groom’s hand — and playfully demand money in return! It’s a lighthearted tradition filled with laughter, teasing, and bonding between the groom and the bride’s side of the family.

After the Ceremonies Say cheese! Photos with family, friends, and guests capture all the fun. Then, after dinner: DANCE PARTY!High-energy Bollywood performances by the bride, guests and professionals. Open dancing to get everyone moving, laughing, and celebrating together!

WALIMA WONDERS: WHAT TO EXPECT

Joota Chupai: The Shoe Game! 👟 Joota Chupai, or “hiding the shoes,” is a fun and playful tradition in Pakistani weddings (and other cultures too). Here’s how it works:During the wedding ceremony, the groom removes his shoes before sitting. The bride’s sisters, female cousins, and bridal party secretly steal and hide his shoes! The Negotiation:After the ceremony, the groom can’t leave without his shoes. The bride’s side demands a playful ransom, and the groom’s party tries to bargain. After laughs, teasing, and friendly negotiations, they agree on an amount — and the shoes are finally returned.

The Bride &amp; Groom Shoe Game :The bride and groom each hold one of each other’s shoes and answer fun questions about their relationship — a playful way to share some insightful things.
