Starting in 2024, travelers to the United Kingdom will be required to apply in advance and pay to enter the country (knows as the Electronic Travel Authorization visa waiver). Cost per person is around £10 to apply.
To apply, travelers will need to provide personal details, passport information, and security information. Applications will then be processed automatically and travelers should expect a response typically within 48 to 72 hours. Currently US citizens are not required to apply in early 2024 but we will continue to check and update accordingly.
For Castle guests staying in Edinburgh prior to the Wedding Festivities, or arriving into Edinburgh on Monday, we will provide transportation from Edinburgh City Center to the Castle. See "Important Wedding Details" tab for more information.
For those returning to Edinburgh City Center on Wednesday morning, transportation will also be provided from the Castle.
*NOTE: If traveling directly to the airport from Dundas on Wednesday morning, you will need to arrange your own transportation.
If you plan to get to Dundas Castle on your own, Ubers and Taxis are great options as the Castle is a short ~25 minutes from downtown. If you are renting a car, parking is available on site.
Edinburgh Airport is a short 25-minute drive to city center and only 15 minutes from Dundas Castle! The Edinburgh Tram also runs directly from the airport to the city center every 7 minutes, and is an efficient, affordable, and safe option to get into the city. You can purchase tickets at the airport Tram station before departing. We utilized the Tram to get to the airport during our July 2023 trip, and it was extremely easy!
Waverley Station is in the heart of Edinburgh, and walking distance to many of the recommended hotels in the city. If you are traveling in from a different UK city (e.g., London, Glasgow, Inverness), taking a train is a great option to get into the city quickly!
There are plenty of options for accommodations in Edinburgh! The below hotels, in addition to others, are found in the map provided on the "Things to Do" page. We highly recommend staying in the New Town/St. James Quarter area of Edinburgh, both because it is our favorite area and because it will keep you in close proximity to the shuttle pickup location on Monday. Old Town is great to see and explore but can be very crowded with tourists, so we recommend staying elsewhere unless you want the hustle and bustle!
Airbnb is also a great option in the city if you are looking for something different! Keep in mind though the city has cracked down on short term rentals, requiring properties to re-apply for licensure. Given this and the timing, you may find some properties are not willing to commit to bookings for April.
A luxurious hotel located one block from the Courtyard and approximately 8 minutes from Waverley Train Station.
Great location in the New Town/St. James Quarter area but slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of Princes Street. The Courtyard is less than a 10-minute walk from Waverley Train Station, and is the likely pickup point for the Monday shuttle to Dundas. Jack & Hayley plan to stay here on Saturday and Sunday night (you can find us in the Theatre Royal pub next door).
Great location in the New Town/St. James area near both the Courtyard by Marriott and the Glass House Hotel.
For those interested in staying near the Castle in South Queensferry before, during, or after the Wedding festivities, there are several recommendations provided by Dundas.
Dakota is a short 3 minute drive to Dundas in South Queensferry
Premiere Inn is a 5 minute drive to Dundas in South Queensferry
