It’s true, the entire “Things To Do” section of this website could just be a list of the dozens of excellent barbecue institutions that Kansas City is known for. And while we would feel comfortable recommending (almost) all of these restaurants, there is one that shines above the rest.
That is why Joe’s is the *official* bbq recommendation of the Killilea-Thompson wedding.
The original location, the gas station, is the most iconic; but whatever location you find yourself nearest to will be fantastic.
Tom recommends getting the ribs with a side of fries and you simply can’t have enough sauce with it.
Hayley recommends a Chicken Z-Man, also with fries.
The Plaza is one of Kansas City’s premier shopping district, and it was the first place we called home in KC.
We recommend exploring some of the local shops, especially Made In KC for a great selection of locally sourced art, souvenirs and bbq sauces.
We loved walking all around the plaza, especially the trails at Mill Creek Park and around Brush Creek.
There are also plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy as well. Some of our favorites are O’Dowd’s, The Granfalloon, Nine Zero One and Rye.
Also, all the public parking garages are free!
Tom’s Town is a distillery in downtown KC, known for their signature bourbon and whiskey but offering assorted vodka and gin spirits as well.
You can tour the distillery and participate in a tasting, or just head to the bar for a drink.
