On the car ride over for Heather to meet Gina for the first time, Rene said to Heather "Just so you know, my sister is my best friend. So if she doesn't like you, I'm gonna dump you. But don't be nervous." Thankfully, Heather 'passed the test!
When Gina asked Rene to be her "Maid of Honor," it was only fitting that four years later, Rene would return the favor and ask her to be his "Best Man."
Ryan and Heather didn't always get along. In fact, they hated each other for the majority of their lives. That all changed one summer when they decided to take a trip together. On a whim, they walked into an airport, looked at the flight list, picked a country at random, and boarded a plane to Madrid. Over the next six days they would travel all through Spain and Morocco, having no hotel or travel reservations. That adventure was the turning point for their relationship, and now Heather considers her brother one of her closest friends and confidants. She can't imagine anyone else as her best man - or walking her down the aisle. As for Rene - well in Ryan's words "Rene is the brother I always wish I'd had, instead of a sister."
As far as nephews go, you cannot get better than Mikey Maresca. No, despite his ridiculous adorableness, he is not a kid-model. He was just blessed with great genes from Mom (and groom's best man) Gina Netrosio and Dad (and groomsmen) Mike Maresca. Although Heather and Rene might be a tad biased, they will fight you if you say there is a cuter, sweeter, more-fun kid around than Mikey. And despite what the pictures may indicate, Mikey generally thinks Aunt Heather and Uncle Rene are pretty ok too.
Cooper will unfortunately not be joining us on the wedding day, but only because Heather feels strongly that she deserves at least one day where she is the center of Rene's attention. The Coopster will be with us in spirit and cannot wait to celebrate with his parents!
Heather always wanted a sister. Her mom assured her regularly though that more siblings weren't in the cards. Thankfully, when Heather was 10 years old, her first cousin Taylor came along and she got the sister she always wanted. In addition to always keeping Heather sane during their crazy family gatherings, Taylor has become one of Heather's closest friends.
There isn't a summer that Heather can remember when she wasn't tagging along with her cousin Lindsay and her friends in East Tennessee. Not only did Lindsay teach Heather that driving in a pick-up through mud up a mountain was not just a gimmick for truck commercials, she is always endlessly patient when Heather comes for a visit and magically adopts a Southern accent. Of all of Heather's bridesmaids, she has known Lindsay the longest (which isn't hard to imagine, given that they've been friends since birth!)
Although Kara and Heather met on the school bus on the first day of Freshmen year at Red Bank Catholic, it wasn't until after graduation that the two became slightly obsessed with each other. And, even though Kara was a firsthand witness of Heather's early twenties, Kara still thought it was a good idea to name Heather as daughter Olivia’s God Mother. Heather is honored, but insists that Liv refer to her as her “Fairy God Mother,” naturally.
Do you remember your best friend in Kindergarten? Rene sure does. It was Rob Economico, and these two kids have been friends for over 30 years.
Exhibit below: A rare shot of Rob eating carbs.
What do you get when you spend thousands of dollars and 18 months to go to life coach school? No, not a thriving career as a Life Coach, but you do come out with a new best friend. April and Heather met on the first day of Life Coach school. April was instantly drawn to Heather's ability to cry shamelessly in front of a room full of strangers (hey, it was life coach school, ok?) and Heather thought "Damn, that girl seems really cool." It wasn't long before April asked Heather on their first "Friend Date" and the rest is history.
What's something that grows more than biceps at a gym, bro?
A lifelong friendship, bro.
That's right, Rene and Mark met at the gym and bonded over pre-workout, whey protein and getting swole. The rest is history.
Although Mike is technically Rene's big sister's husband, Rene often thinks of Mike as a big brother, as Rene can't remember a time when Mike wasn't around. Long before Gina and Mike's nuptials, he was always a member of the family.
Mike has also been a great pedagogue for Heather in how to navigate 'marrying-in' to the Netrosio family.
What happens when you fail a class in high school? You get sentenced to summer school and a chance to meet your new best friend. Yes, Pete and Rene met during summer school. Although their relationship may have started based on educational failure, their friendship showed to be much stronger than their Grade Point Averages. Pete and Rene now work together every day, bringing natural gas to all of Westchester, proving that you can still fail stuff in high school, yet still be responsible for a highly flammable and potentially lethal chemical for entire populations of people!
One day when Heather was at work, her father called her and said "Hey, guess what, I found a roommate for you." Heather of course was immediately perplexed, "What do you mean you found me a roommate, Dad?" Then Heather's dad explained "I was on the phone with this girl from work. I've never met her and know nothing about her, but she mentioned she was looking to move to the city, so I told her you would call her!" Two thoughts ran through her head: 1. I cannot believe my dad is pimping me out to strangers and 2. I bet this girl is a real freak that she actually wants to live with someone she doesn't know from some dude from work! Well, turns out Dad's really do know best. Katen and Heather moved in together in Heather's first 'real' apartment after college, and spent the next several years partying together all over Manhattan. Living in the city during her early twenties are some of Heather's happiest memories and she owes most of that to her beloved roommate, Katen, and to her Dad pimping her out to a stranger.
Devin and Heather met the summer before their Freshmen year of high school on the field hockey field. Their friendship blossomed over sprints and hockey drills, and while being screamed at by their sadist coach - proving that some of the most beautiful things can be built out of complete misery. During High School, they became inseparable, often being referred to as RBC's Bash Brothers. Although Devin moved to Wisconsin, and they don't get to see each other as much as they like, no matter how long it's been since they've seen each other, their friendship can always pick up right where it left off.
Ahh, Freshmen year of high school. A time in a young man's life chockfull of teenaged angst and hormones. No better time for forced guidance counseling from your Catholic High School. Silver lining? It may just land you a super cool new best friend. Rene and Jimmy met while getting 'guidance' on how to be good catholic men. They spent the next twenty years proving how little they learned in those sessions. Heather just knows Jimmy as "the funniest person on earth," as well as the reason she met her new lifelong friend and future bridesmaid, his wife Kim.
Everyone knows when you enter a relationship with someone, you inherit their friends...and their friends' wives. Little did Heather know that the 'wife of friend' Jimmy Terracciano (also a groomsmen) would eventually become one of Heather's closest friends, and someone she could always count on for a lot of laughs and good times!
If you were to ask Rob his first memory of Rene, he'd probably say oh you mean as the annoying little brother of my friend Gina? Although Gina will fight to the death that Rob is really her friend, Rob and Rene know the truth.
Heather: What do you want me to say about Ari on the website?
Rene: I don't care.
Heather: Give me something to work with... how did you meet?
Rene: Mutual Friends
Heather: That's not very heartwarming - I need more!
Rene: I don't know... we met in the Bronx..?
Heather: He's one of your best friends, and that is all you can say?
Rene: Just say we met via mutual friends in the Bronx.
Rene and Ari met through mutual friends in the Bronx.
