Our Story

Your hand looks heavy, can I hold it?

Picture of Your hand looks heavy, can I hold it?

Like many couples these days we met on a dating app! We first matched March of 2023, Tyler was the first to break the ice. We chatted for a bit, Tyler told me he didn’t want to lead me on, he would really like to take me out but he JUST got to Canada for work. Secretly, I thought “Oh thank God.” You never know what is coming after “I don’t want to lead you on”. I was happy to wait to meet him and to get to know him in the meantime. We talked everyday and night, mostly at 2am during his Canadian night shift hours. March 31, 2023 was our first date. Tyler phoned around to find a romantic spot, finding it at La Perla Restuarant and Country Inn. The day came for our date when he sent me a picture of my favorite Stewarts gas pump. Like I said, we talked about everything under the sun. He drove from Canada after his night shift ended to get back and get ready to meet. We met that night at the restaurant and he made me laugh until I snorted, which he of course pointed out, making me laugh more. He was quick with the Backstreet Boys jokes, and I was quick to hide behind my hands (I was so nervous!) During one of our conversations we started texting back and forth cheesy pick up lines, so, as we were leaving the restaurant I took a chance and said to Tyler “Your hand looks heavy, can I hold it?” His response was “Of Course!” Later he told me how he had been trying to intentionally bump our hands to try to hold mine. Like the true gentleman he is Tyler walked me to my car. We decided dinner went too quick so we went next door to The Lakeview and talked some more. Since then, we spent most of our time together, realizing all the coincidences that connected us. His family had shopped in our familys farm stand regularly, after his dad met me he laughed and said “if only he knew how many vegetables he’s eaten from her farm all these years”. He went to high school in Vermont with a family friends nephew, Our cousins are college friends, someone he was in the Marines with knows my Aunt (that lives in Michigan), his friends father was one of the contractors that put the edition on our old house. Did I mention we lived 7 minutes and 40 seconds from one another! I would regularly drive by his apartment for years... we shopped at the same grocery store and frequented the same gas station. Something tells me we were meant to find one another.

Fast forward one year; Acadia National Park.
We spent a weekend in Maine seeing lighthouses and exploring Bar Harbor. One item on my bucket list had been to see the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain. Tyler had other plans to make it memorable. Just as the sun was rising at 5:38 on April 21, 2024 Tyler tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around finding him down on one knee holding a box labeled with a post it note. It read, To Heather, only open if you will be my wife. He asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes!

We are so excited for this new chapter of our love story and we are blessed to have amazing family & friends supporting us becoming a family.
