When it comes to a couple, Heather and Michael are two very different people who still manage to have a lot in common. Heather grew up in eastern Connecticut with her lovely, hardworking parents, younger brother, and live in Irish uncle. Always going against the grain, she excelled in school, spent most spare time in jazz band and theater, and doing too much homework. Since she was never one for going with the crowd, Heather did not have a lot of friends, however, that did not stop her from staying true to herself and enjoying the little things in life. These things included watching hockey with her Dad, drawing pictures for her Mom, listening to Rage Against the Machine in the car with her brother Dan, learning how to drive a truck with Uncle Rich, and talking for hours on the phone with her friend Bridget. All of that hard work granted Heather the opportunity to go to the University of Vermont, where she met her two friends, Melinda and Jackie, who all shared a love for the Red Sox (more so after they finally won the World Series in 2004), watching movies, and spending time by Lake Champlain. During her Junior year of college and with the encouragement of those around her, Heather decided to leave Vermont for a semester in Grenoble, France, which instantly changed her life forever. There, she learned how big the world was outside of New England and relished in traveling all over France and to various European countries by herself. Since then, Heather's great love in life involves seeing as much of the world as possible with the people she loves most while indulging in the foods, wines, beers, and sights offered in these far flung places. When she is not jet setting to the next place on her list, Heather follows in her mother's footsteps and runs all over Malden, training for marathons and trying to get faster without getting hurt.
Michael's life started in a quaint seaside town in Massachusetts, where he, his pre-school teaching turned director of childhood education mother, middle school shop class and all around handyman chef father, and fun loving partner in crime sister, Laura. He loved sports from infancy, always taking the time to watch the Celtics, finding his way to Fenway Park to sneak in a Red Sox game, and frequenting the Boston College campus for Saturday football. When it was not sports taking up his life, he would relish in playing video games with his best friend Joe, constantly trying to beat him at Street Fighter II. Mike's love of Massachusetts sports life made his decision to attend Boston College an easy one, and more football, more tailgating, and the occasional visit from his close family came and went during those four years. BC enabled Mike to meet his loyal group of friends who still make it a point to get together for dinners out in Boston and short trips to Baltimore and California.
To put it bluntly, Heather and Michael met where no couple is supposed to originate: at work. On the day Heather was visiting the corporate floor, Michael instantly noticed her floating by his cubicle, prompting him to send a cryptic message to his friend, citing "new baby on the team." Michael scoped out where Heather was sitting and immediately walked over to introduce himself under the guise that he was really just looking for his friend. Despite trying to start up a conversation, Heather blocked most of Michael's advances with short answers to his questions, which, for her being a talker, never happens. Little did she know (but everyone else did), Michael was attracted to her, and made more excuses to come and visit Heather's cubicle. After numerous conversations about the annoyances of work, the Red Sox, the Celtics, and what each other had for dinner the night before, Heather and Michael became friends, and Heather started to frequent Michael's apartment for various get togethers. For the night of the 2008 Super Bowl between the Giants and the Patriots, Michael asked Heather if she wanted to come over, cook, and watch the game with him. With bellies full of margaritas, quesadillas, three kinds of chips, and some water, they watched what was considered to be one of the worst nights in New England history, and decided to drown their bad memories with episodes of "Family Guy" and some good old fashioned hand wrestling. Then, Cupid made his dramatic appearance, and Heather realized she had feelings for Michael. Two month's later, after fun filled dates watching the "Jackass" movies, "Snakes on a Plane" and even more "Family Guy," Heather and Michael became a couple.
Almost seven years, countless trips around the world, and too many late nights watching sports and cartoons, Heather and Michael awoke to Christmas 2014. Michael had been living with Heather in their little apartment in Malden for over a year, and Heather kept dropping hints about it being time to "pop the question." While her brother, Dan, was in the shower and Heather was getting ready for another exciting Christmas Day at the Flynn's, Michael exclaimed "oh, I forgot to wrap one of your Christmas presents. Here you go." Heather was handed a large tin with the Eiffel Tower painted on the top. She opened it, revealing a cylindrical jar which she thought was anti aging cream for her budding under eye wrinkles. Looking at it closer, Heather realized it was not the cream she had wanted, but jewelry cleaner, and instantly showed perplexity in her face. "It's for this." And turning towards Michael, there was the ring that Heather wanted. "So, will you marry me?" Still in shock and with half her make up on, Heather said yes, gave Michael a kiss, and yelled for Dan to "get out of the bathroom now." From then, it was a whirlwind of hugs, kisses, phone calls, texts, workplace giggles, and a lot of champagne celebrating each family's new addition.
