Our Wedding

How We Met.

Janesville Parker High School. No, we were not High School Sweethearts! (We did have a lot of mutual friends though.) Justin was the Captain of the Hockey team and graduated in 2005. Heather was into DECA and Debate and graduated in 2007. (They both loved to party lol.)

Chicago.

Heather moved to Chicago right after Christmas of 2011. Justin moved to Chicago June of 2016. In October of 2017 Aaron Rodgers broke his collar bone. Heather was at her favorite Packers bar, Will's, down the street from Justin's apartment with a few mutual friends. She hadn't seen him since he relocated and told him to stop 'Being so lame!' PSA: She didn't know he was a Bears fan! Justin was not interested in Packer fandom but he was interested in his favorite bar, Will's. He had joined a Wednesday night euchre league there and didn't realize Heather was a loyal visitor... She was super cute in high school though–so of course he showed up.

Our 1st Date.

Justin asked Heather out in June of 2018. She wasn't sure it was a date...He was. They went to a dive bar for a few beers and then went to an improv comedy show. Justin put his arm around Heather and they laughed super loud. They had so much fun and strolled around the neighborhood afterward. It was magical and they immediately knew this was something special.

The Rest is History

Within the first few months Heather had to travel across the pond for work and Justin decided to join and take the relationship to another level. While traveling through Helsinki, Budapest, Prague, and Amsterdam it was clear they were a perfect pair. They have since embraced each others families, moved in together, adopted a cat named Bex, and survived a Pandemic!

Our Engagement!

It was a Monday night in September. Heather had left the house for more than an hour (a rare pandemic occurrence) to visit a friend in Milwaukee. Justin had been waiting for the opportune moment to string up photos of their love story down their long hallway... He bought rose petals, candles, and champagne. (Bex, their cat, excitedly thought the photos and roses were all toys for her.) Justin anxiously kept fixing everything until Heather arrived home. She was very surprised and of course said YES! They celebrated with champagne and called their family and friends. (Justin also had Chipotle + Chips &amp; Guac waiting which was super clutch.)

For those coming in from out of town... 1) My Apartment - If you are coming in to Wisconsin on Friday you need to try a local fish fry while you are here. Patty &amp; Chuck are one of our closest friends parents, some of the nicest people you'll meet, and serve up one of the best FF!! Don't miss out on the pepperjack cheese curds! 2) Cozy Inn - This is the oldest Chinese restaurant in the state of Wisconsin. (!!) They have THE best egg rolls ever, a super unique dining room, and fabulous cocktails. This is conveniently located up the street from the hotel. Tell them you are in town for Heather's wedding! She went to kindergarten with the owner's son and loves to visit when home. 3) The Buckhorn Supper Club - If you're looking for the authentic Supper Club experience we got you covered. This spot is only a short ~20 min drive and sits with a beautiful view of Lake Koshkonong. 4) The Looking Glass - Perfect local pub! Lots of Wisconsin beers, great bar food, and walking distance from the hotel. They have a great patio with lots of brunch options for Saturday. Ask for Sarah to make you the best bloody mary in town. 5) Rock County Brewing Company - We've never been but a new brewery is always a good option to have! If you're feeling frisky, Wiggy's is across the street and The Draft House is down the hill.Update: We've been! The beers were good and the patio is cute. 6) Havana Coffee - We've recently stumbled upon this spot on trips back to Janesville. It's adorable with a massive coffee &amp; latte list.... the everything breakfast bagel sandwich is so good! Quick drive from downtown. 7) The Bodacious Brew Shops - A short walk from hotel on Main Street you have the options of coffee at Bodacious Brew or a plethora of olive oils over at the...Bodacious Olive. Patio overlooks the river. Update: We recently got the Fall Oat Milk Latte and the caramel hazelnut latte on a trip home for our marriage license. Both were tasty and the back patio is so cute. 8) O'Riley and Conway's Irish Pub - 100+ beers and wine ready for you at the local Irish pub

Activities 

1) The Farmers Market - Janesville recently redid a ton around the riverfront next to the hotel. On Saturday mornings May - October you can take a stroll and check out local vendors here.
 
2) Take a Stroll - Janesville is known as "The City of Parks" and has many trails to check out via walking or bike. A few options are to look at the <a href="https://iceagetrail.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=5ff8f517b1e34d46bb70ed21b36286c6">Ice Age Trail </a>or paved trails by Palmer Park.
 
3) Rotary Gardens - Janesville's Botanical gardens sits on 20 acres and features over 4,000 varieties of plants. 
 
4) Golf - Janesville has 3 golf courses: Riverside (18 holes), Glen Erin (18), and Blackhawk (9)

Things to Do

Best friends since 6th grade—For many years wherever Kelsey was, Heather wasn't far behind. They've shared many memories from passing notes in school, traveling up north, countless sleepovers with friends, and more. Kelsey and Heather's friendship has evolved over time but some things never changed... Like their support one another's dreams, infectious laughter, and that "I totally get it" intuitive nature that comes with being so close for so long.

Kelsey Grover

Catee & Heather became fast friends as roommates in Chicago. They sure have packed in a lot of adult growth side by side the past 10 years: moving to new cities, adjusting to new jobs, and how to make a fabulous charcuterie board. They've seen each other through major milestones like meeting their life partners who are now also best buds. They both love to travel and once took an 18-day European trip through 3 countries.

Catee Granback

Heather didn't grow up with sisters but was so fortunate to have had such an amazing cousin! These two grew up bonding over mall madness, Mad TV, after school snacks, and their mutual lack of athleticism LOL. They may not phsyically see each other as much as they'd like but talk almost  everyday and have stayed close through many seasons of life.

Karina Kovacic

Best friends since their first day of college! Kelsey & Heather were roommates in the dorms where they'd binge Grey's Anatomy and order in Rosa's pizza. They bonded over joining  American Marketing Association (AMA) together where they were constant social butterflies—attending Badger or Brewers games, charitable events, and traveling to New Orleans. They've since shared many memorable adventures—often with their other roommates, Mel & Lauren.

Kelsey Johnson

Mel & Heather also met their 1st day of college at UW-Whitewater and ended up living together for a few years after. Heather took her first trip abroad with Mel where they visited Mel's family in England. This trip is where their  mutual love of wine tasting really started and still continues over virtual zoom calls today. They both love to be creative and often chat about photography or Mel's artful cookie business.

Melanie Wellhausen

Lauren & Heather lived together for a few years in college with Kelsey & Mel. They may have led a toilet papering of someones' house back then but promise they've matured since. Heather can count on Lauren to always be there for heart-to-heart pep talks, crafty cri-cut creations, googling many medical symptoms, and laughing with snarky and sarcastic jokes.

Lauren Ulatowski

Justin and John were a year apart in High School and became fast friends through baseball. For many years wherever Justin was, John wasn't too far behind. They have shared a lot of memories ice fishing, competing against each other in anything possible, partying until the early morning hours, and watching heart-breaking Badgers games. These days even though they don't see each other as often as they'd like they don't miss a beat when they reunite.

John Pohlman

Garry is Justin's oldest brother who is 8 years his senior. He thanks Garry for a lot of valuable lessons growing up in what not to do LOL.  Justin and Garry have become great friends as they grew older sharing a love of PBR and live music.  Justin spent the summer before graduating college living with Garry's family where he changed the diapers of his Goddaughter to pay rent.  

Garry Hopper

Brett is Justin's second oldest brother, only 4 days younger than Garry.  He thanks Brett for a lot valuable lessons of what to do growing up.  Some of Justin's fondest memories as a kid are hanging with Brett and playing hockey in the basement.  Living in different states they don't see each other as much as they used to but when they do Justin enjoys having a craft beer with Brett and getting a chance to hang with his niece and nephew.

Brett Hopper

Ian and Justin grew close at UW-Madison despite growing up in the same home town. They lived together for a few years in college and learned important life skills working at the Rathskeller (aka the Memorial Union Terrace). These days Justin loves that Ian works at a cheese shop and fills his fridge with hot habenero spreads. He also loves that he can take some money off Ian once or twice a year on the golf course.

Ian Behm

Justin's oldest friend—BFFs since 3rd grade! Shaun & Justin lived only a few blocks away and have stayed close throughout many seasons of life since riding their bikes around the neighborhood. Today they talk frequently on the phone—keeping connected between Chicago & L.A...mostly commiserating over their favorite teams the Bears & Cubs.

Shaun Daley

Justin and Ryan's friendship dates back to Middle School. They lived together for a few years in Milwaukee after college and traveled to Oktoberfest in Munich with Justin's Mom and Aunt. Today Ryan is a part of Justin's "6-pack" group of guy friends who share their love of beer and  laughter across many cities and time zones. Justin can count on Shadel to show up ready to party but knows he is also a good person to bring direct, unfiltered advice.
